Citi Bank India — They took money from my account without my permission

Address:Bangalore, Karnataka

I had CITI Bank salary account for which there was no maintenance fee. When I left my employer, there was no salary credit and CITI bank guys changed my account into a different account without my consent. And they started charging me Rs.560 every month silently with out any sort of alerts (SMS or email) and so, I was not even aware that CITI bank was emptying my account. Same thing was happening to my friend who had CITI bank salary account like me and he alerted me. I checked and noticed that they had already taken more than Rs.3500 in around 5 months. If it was not for my friend, they would have emptied it completely. They refused to return my money. To close my account, they told me to send a letter to an address by post. Apparently they dont handle closing of account via online or Fax or email. And now they are saying that my letter did not reach them and they are not closing my account and they keep charging me money. Dear friends, My sincere suggestion for you is to close your CITI bank accounts and open SBI. SBI is the best and safe.

My last working day at Citibank was 30th of December 2013 and my Citibank account at which I stopped receiving salary was active. I was using the account for normal transactions. From March 2014 the reputed bank started charging a fine of INR 500 every month for not maintaining the minimum balance in my account. (the minimum balance criteria was not applicable when i was an employee of Citibank). The bizarre part is the bank never informed me about the minimum balance criteria if i am no longer an employee of the bank. Not even a mail or a SMS was sent. The irony is I never received any notification in my registered mobile number when the fine of INR 500 was debited from my account thrice. It was only when i called customer care i got to know that a whopping INR 100000 has to be maintained in the account. The customer care representative was giving a silly excuse that being an ex citibank employee i should know about the minimum balance criteria. The contrary is being such a reputed brand it is the onus of the bank to call its customers and inform them about any such conditions. When i was an employee of the bank it gave me many good moments. This was the only bad memory i had with the bank.
