[Resolved]  Chennai Airport — Exit gate issue

Today I went to chennai airport to drop my brother . At the car parking entry person issued me entry ticket, I said him I am not going to park my car and will drop my brother and ride away. He said for five minutes it is free. So I dropped brother and came near exit gate within 4 minutes . Now there were car queue for exit. I was struck . one of the person incharge of car traffic asked me to go to another entry where car queue was short. I did. When I reached exit gate It was more than 5 minutes . The lady sitting at exit gate counter to pay 60 rupees for 8 minutes. I told her what was the situation and was not willing to pay. After 10 minutes of verbal argument, a supervisor came and asked me to pay. I told him I cannot. He asked me to I need to meet manager. My friend got off the car and went inside the airport where the manager was sitting and explained him what happened. Manager said no need to pay and asked to call him when he reaches the exit entry. I called the manager and he asked me to give the phone to counter person. The lady told the exit gate will be opened only if he pays and lot of argument happened. At two more supervisors came there and shouted and spoke very rubbish things. Manager asked us to pay and go. Manager was very indifferent to us. One point of time he asked me not to pay and finally he said to pay and said it is matter of 60 rupees. I was helpless. I don't know what to do.They did not open the gate for exit. I really wanted to fight since this issue was because of car queue. More over It was late night 12.30 am. I just wanted to know why these managers and supervisors were acted indifferently. I got insulted and paid 60 rupees. After paying those supervisors were laughing and were shouting at me. It was very insulting. What had happened for me should not happen for others. I need to know how these issues can be solved and which higher authorities should we call or speak to when this happens at odd time like late night.

Airport Authority of India invited the tender for parking charges collecting for parked vehicles entire the parking area under the terms and conditions of 60% area wise of normal car park its rate Rs 60 and 40% area wise of premium parking its rate RS 120. I have attached the tender documents below.

             &n... Airport Authority of India officials also supporting this public robberry . The contractor Garuda Aviation Services Private Limited Mumbai spent 10 crores to Airport Authority of India for this unauthorised changes of TOLL system. The said Licensee collecting  3 crores per month ,  and is paying a license fee of RS 1.21crores per month under this unauthorised tender. The minimum license fee is 1.21 crores in the invited tender . The licensee paying same amount to AAI per month . IS THIS CALLED OPEN TENDER?

             &n...  So kindly take a necessary action against to Airport Authority of India and Garuda Aviation Services Private Limited(Mumbai under world parking MAFIA, the investigation hand over to   CBI    and save the passengers and public in this cruel harassment, public cheating and robbery inside the airport.

I went to the Chennai Airport / Intl terminal to drop off my uncle. I didnt't even get down from the car. But there was a buildup of cars in the road (due to some elderly couple trying to load their bags in the trolley right in the middle of the drop off road!) and even with my best attempt it took me 7mins to reach the exit gate. Even after repeated attempts at explaining the issue to the person behind the counter she insisted on paying up Rs60. Atleast she could have explained about this partial roll back or directed me to her supervisor/authority which she failed to do as well. It was "its not my problem. You have to pay up" attitude. Certainly this is not the way to deal with the public.

I read a news article that AAI has called for a partial roll-back to the 5min rule. It is reasonable that AAI took this issue under consideration and called for a partial roll back. But is that official? What are the criteria? During which rush hour is this applicable? Unless these are clearly mentioned, it is up to the contractor (Garuda Aviation) to extort money from the public.

Paying up Rs.60 isn't a big deal for me. It is this system(or lack of it?) I am against. I lost my cool today and had to get down from the car, yell at the person at the counter and create a delay at the exit gate for all the vehicles behind me. But unless there is a medium to keep people informed about such rules, invariably everyone is going to do this and create a commotion each and everyday.

I now look up to take this issue with the officials at the airport and see what I can do. If any other affected person whats to tag along with me in this, sure do!

Post here and we shall talk and see how to present this complaint effectively.

I went to the Airport on 03.10.2012. After dropping my Daughter in law for the Trichy flight I came out after 19 minutes. To my suprise they charged me Rs120.00, saying that above 10 minutes the next slab is 4 hours and I had to pay Rs120.00. I feel it is ridiculous and the slab should be
30 minutes : 1 Hour: 2 Hrs etc.,
Nobody will stay for 4 hrs in the airport especially in the Domestic terminal.
Will the authorities look into the matter and save the people from the looting of the Agency, perhaps they want to break even very fast...
