My son was also put on Ritalin, then Risperdal and a new drug just licenced in the UK but I was told it was used alot in the US. He was also put on Dexamphetamine. The drug from the US at the time was having many legal cases for causing liver failure and death. I mentioned this but despite a slightly abnormal liver result, they were happy to keep trying it. None of these drugs helped. These are used to help schools in many cases. In effect schools gave up on my son at around 13 years of age. I used no drugs, just common sense and although he is not perfect he is much improved. He is working with very little support, he is looking at driving lessons and is a much happier person. It's time schools faced up to their responsibilities and stopped drugging our children to give them less work. I know that not all cases are sorted like my son's, but these teachers and classroom assistants get paid for dealing with these children, if they don't want to get another type of job.
