[Resolved]  Dell Inspiron 1525 — Plugged in, not charging

Yes, like everyone else, i was dupped by the dell (Yet again) i was not happy with my desk top from a few years back and i should have not repeated the same mistake, ordering from dell again! So, i am partially to blame! But i was in a bind and had to purchase a laptop fast and didn't have neither the time nor the resources to consider another alternative (Or at least a little more educated before making a costly commitment like this)!
Anyway, the problem with this "expensive piece of junk" is what plenty other people have noted: right after i ran out of warranty, the battery (Which was noit fully charging before) depleated to 85% (Even plugged in) and from 85 to 50% and soon after i am looking at 29% and it is going down 1% everyday. Again, please bare in mind that the computer is always plugged in and never on without external power.
I am so concerned and don't know what to do, as i have heard the replacement batteris are mostly refurbished and do the same thing after couple of months! So, that means even if i buy another battery, there is no guarantee that is going to last me any more than couple of months. Plus with today's economy, i can not effort buying a "new" batthery and pay for installation and check run, etc.. Etc.
So, please take this as a complain, from a very frustrated dell consumer or venting and my little way of expressing my huge disappointment with dell (With their hurrible india -based customer support) and if nothing can be done about my problem, at least someone could be saved from making the biggest mistake of their life: buying a dell notebook! Or dell of anykind!

My 1505 also doesn't charge past 13%, tried a different battery. Says, plugged in - charging, but never holds the charge. I have used laptops for years and never had this problem.
My battery's dead too!

I bought a 1525 - the Hard drive broke, the keyboard broke, the PCI slot broke and the motherboard broke.. and I don't use it that often.

Every time I buy an electronic product that is not Japanese I pay the price... next time I'll get a Fujitsu or Toshiba.
I have an inspiron 1501 for a little over a year (out of warrant) 3 days after my computer was out of warrant I begin to have ALL of the following battery issues, when I contacted DELL the insisted I buy the extended warrant in order for them to attempt to look at my system. They calim they new what was wrong and that FOR THEM its an easy fix BUT they wouldn't touch my system until I paid 456789k. I will never buy another dell. AC adapter message, plugged in not charging, BIOS locked itself out any and every problem possible I have it with this damn thing!
Same thing happened with my dell Inspiron. In about a month after my warranty ran out my battery stopped working properly. It says it's 100% charged, but once I unplugg it the computer dies in about 10 minutes. After a month of having that problem, now my computer won't even recognize the battery. The battery is plugged in, but it says no battery detected. Watch out if you are thinking about buying a dell.
bought my dell 1525 in Jan 08 and it also just started saying " battery not detected" or pluged in not charging. as soon as i bought my computer i had a BSOD and decided to fix it myself, they keys broke on it and also the mouse pad goes wackey from time to time. i got the Windows 7 RC so i dont think it was vista that was messing everything up, it was dell and there products. there crooks, it probably costs them about 100 dollars to make this piece of trash.
I to am having the same problem with my POS Dell Inspiron 1525, (plugged in, not charging). I've tried everything that was suggested on the internet and even spent money on an adapter that didn't fix the problem. I'm with the rest of you on buying another Dell, I won't. I've bought many Dell computers but this has been a pain since I purchased it a year ago.
Inspiron 1525 (Intel chip) &1526 (AMD Chip) are the same. I started to see the same issue few day ago so I did what I could before calling Dell. I have updated the BIOS, installed the latest ACPI Power managment software offered by Dell and no luck, so I asked borrowed someone's Dell 1526 and replaced my battery and AC power adopter with the borrowed one and problem still exist...now I can eliminate, battery, AC Adopter, BIOS, Power Management, Windows Update...Can you think of something else? I couldn't, so I called Dell and they asked me to go to Future shop (Sister company for Best buy in Canada)...I certainly wouldn't want to deal with them because of bad experience.

I have purchased 5 servers and over 25 desktop in past two years from Dell for my work and friends...this leave a VERY bad taste in my mouth, I WILL look elsewhere next time when it comes to buy any kind of computer.
I am having the same issue with my daughters Dell Inspiron 1720. 0% available ( plugged in, not charging) message. I have tried shut down, removing battery, holding down power but...etc. Nothing works.
From what I've read replacing the motherboard for around $400 is the solution but why do that when you can purchase a new one for $500, doesn't make any sense. Dell should recall these!
Hello All Guys .
Last year march 2008 I have purchased the Inspiron 1525 and suddenly today I found that batter is not detected and Batter Plugged in but not charging. I tried all tricks e.g. BIOS update change of battery also ( my friend has same computer) and Dell is asking for huge amount for support .
I do not know how to handle this situation . I never expected such poor response .

Dell Vostro 1520 Laptop — breach of contract/higher price than MRP

I purchased a dell laptop-Vostro 1520, through a bulk deal offered especially for students of my college. The Dell Vendor(HBS System Ltd., New Delhi) took the complete payment and delivered the machine only after 25 days when it was promised to be delivered within 3 days. The laptop was charged at a price which is higher than the MRP printed on the laptop package box.The vendor then delivered the accessories of the laptop after another 20 days and did not even deliver all the accessories promised.

Dell Xps M1530 Laptop — dvd drive

Dear Sir ,
I bought this Dell XPS Laptop last year in April last Year . The DVD drive stopped accepting the DVDs and for this reason i contacted authorised center at ATTA, Noida on 29 august 09 named PC tech . They kept the laptop for whole day and charged RS 5250/ for replacing the CD drive . They assured me of the new CD drive working alright and promised 1 year warranty on it which is printed on the memo they gave after billing. However, on returning to the place of my duty (Joshimath, in Uttarakhand) i discovered that while the drive accepted the CD ,it didnt show the CD drive icon on clicking "My Computer". The touch eject button on the keyboard has also stopped working and so i am not even able to eject the inserted CD.
I must also inform you of the sheer unprofessional approach of your service dealer and also his unethical behaviour as I found some of my data missing and history showed that they must have spent much time surfing through my stored data.
I request the following :
1. Info as to how my cd drive can become functional
2. Was the amount charged for replacing the cd drive justified?
3. Can a representative of yours can come to Joshimath for repairs?
4. Please do not appoint unscrupulous people as your service representatives
expecting a prompt solution,

WithRegards,
H K Tiwari

Dell Xps 1640 — Worst Service

Its just incredible DELL continue to do business in India. One of the worst experiences EVER. I bought XPS 1640 in Febuary 2009. Following my experience, rest you decide

1) I called the customer service for enquiry and they reverted back. Dell representative called me and we closed the deal. I sent them the check and then the first trouble started, DELAY in shipment. I was promised the laptop will be ready within 7 working days. NEVER HAPPENED. Finally it was delivered after 21 days.

2) During my configuration time, the dell guy duped me into buying all the different warranties and 64 bit vista system saying this is the best possible system without telling me any drawbacks. ( i admit, i should have done my own research, just for mere few 100 Rs he got me to buy 64 bit vista which was crap) To my surprise when i got the system, some of the configuration was AUTOMATICALLY downgraded. For example, i had opted for wirless card which was the latest one and paid 2000 rs extra for it, where as it was only basic.

On confronting, the sales guy, firstly he ignored my calls and emails for few days and when i finally got really wild, and spoke to his manager, they agreed their mistake and said, an enginner will visit to replace it. Engineer showed up and changed the part. They said, for all of this hassle they will sending me a noise isolation headphones. Till todate, nothing. I asked my secretary for few follow ups ( just to see how attentitve they were) they simply denied it and said, they want to see in writing if this was offered.

3) After using the laptop for like 2 -3 weeks, i realised it has severe heating problem, and hard drive had clicking noise, called the technical service, spent hours with them, with no results. Engineer came, did some little cleaning and all and said its ready to go. Nothing helped, he asked to buy a cooling mat for it. During this whole ordeal, 30 days return policy lapsed and i was stuck.

4) Recently, last week, my laptop suddenly stopped working. I just couldnt turn it on. I called the technical support again, the guy asked me to open the laptop and check memory and run few diagnostics, the laptop seemed to start but i felt there was something still wierd about it and asked him to send an engineer. He insisted that engineer wasnt required, in few hours, laptop simply stopped working, no power on. I tried calling techincal department on friday night for 2 hrs but i was kept on hold, next i was furious with them, since they said, next engineer can only visit to change mother board and memory on tuesday. The technical guy was extremely rude and kept telling me how good it was that i bought complete coverage. He said, he cannot even gaurantee and tell me if tuesday will be the confirmed visit day for the technician. He said, on monday, someone will call me to confirm, Monday passed, i called them and they said, tech wont be coming till wednesday, i called again on tuesday to know the time, and was informed, tech wont be visiting before thursday or even friday.

5) This is just a ridiculous thing to do, they literally, keep ignoring telephone calls and blame it on their local technician. One support guy even said that, they cannot do anything about it since its (indirectly) not their problem since they only do online support.

This is ridiculous, I spend over 2500 $ aka 1.15 lakh for a laptop, within 6 months of its operation, everything goes worst and there is no support. No one is there to hear u out, and now even calling them aint solving anything.

Dont ever buy DELL and donot fall for their lame ads. They are nothing but crooks.
Hello Friends, Please add me too !! I have DELL inspiron 1525 bought in April 2008. I am facing same problem, battery not detected !! DELL support asked me to pay 16, 500 INR to extend warranty and said can help only after that. Please co-ordinate and take an legal action against DELL for such faulty product. I am ready to pay fund for legal action. Please plan something. They are making us fool.

If possible provide me consumer office address in Pune.

Thank you,

I too have had so many problems with my dell I purchased in Feb. of 2008. It crashed a month after I had it and now I'm having problems with the battery. I do NOT think it is a coincedence that so many are having problems with their computers and they all have close to the same purchase date!! I qould never ever recomend Dell to anyone!!! They have the WORST customer service one time I had an agent SCREAM at me over the phone after i had been on hold for 4 hours and hung up on twice!!! A lawsuit would be a wonderful idea!!
