[Resolved] Doctors — Dignity of female patients | |
Hi, In our country, female's sexual safety is a big issue. At least modesty charges are framed on person if he tries to touch her without her permission. While male doctors/male nurses are allowed to see and touch fully naked females. Female always goes to parlour or for any other service where female attendants are there. Then can't they be given choice for medical treatments. Two month back, my wife underwent a surgery. She has to go with gown, which is usually very open. Even then that is also removed when they start operating her. Now can you imagine 6 males were present in the OT. Initially there were 6 males only, then after 25 minutes a lady surgeon came in OT, she went away in another 25 min. After another 20 min my wife came out. After that when she was in private room, lady doctor come with junior male doctors and asks me to move out so that they both can examine her. I have been facing trauma since operation. From that time I am not able to take complete sleep and also I am facing other health issues. In this regard i have following queries:- How valid are these rule? One side we take care of females in all places and on other side, they have to be naked in front of male doctors and OT attendants. Even when we all know we have give our consis proior to operation, as we don't have any other option available to us, then why patients concern is not taken care off. Please let me know if there is any clause, which can help a husband to be with his wife while examination of wife and/or during surgery. As u know patient is worried and do not have much conscious when she goes in OT to ask for female nurse if she is not there. So is there any law which can help relatives to confirm who all are in OT? Can patient insist to have female attendants in OT? What can be done if hospital and doctor do not help us in the resolving such issues? What if i want my wife to be treated by female doctors/attendant? In case female doctors and attendant are not available, can husband be allowed to be there in that room? When female doctor is examining female, why are junior male doctor are allowed there and husband is asked to move out? Don't fuss too much about where I am coming from since Medical Laws are applicable universally. I will try to answer your queries one by one.
Is there any law which can help relatives to confirm who all are in OT?
Answer: No! You have the right to confirm if the patient is being operated by the same surgeon whom you paid & who is supposed to perform surgery on the patient. In case, its a government funded hospital and you did not directly pay any surgeon, in that case you lose your right to chose. The surgery will be performed subject to availability of any surgeon at the hospitals discretion. Even in the earlier scenario, theres no way you can take a sneak peek in the OR and confirm who the surgeon is. You will have to count on word of the mouth & of course the signatures on operation notes.
Can patient insist to have female attendants in OT?
Answer: No! And the reason is obvious & any sane person can understand why. Briefly .. staff at the hospital have pre-designated duty rosters. They cant change it every time someone's wife shows up in the OR (Operating Room), You have to understand that doctors really don't like to have "sexy time" with female patients cut open with their bowels hanging out & female corpses or for that matter, the un-cut ones. If you have an uncontrollable sexual urge towards every female you spot, please reckon, everyone is not you.
What can be done if hospital and doctor do not help us in the resolving such issues?
Answer: Nothing! Since theres no issue to begin with. Its all about Patient Attendant's insecurities. In some good centers they have psychiatrists for that or so I've heard.
What if i want my wife to be treated by female doctors/attendant?
Answer: Well you have every right to chose "gender" of the doctor & the doctor for your wife's medical treatment. But for surgery, no. There isn't a female surgeon for every kind of surgery that your wife might need (accept the fact). About the assistant/attendant, please try and understand that its not possible. Unless you own Mexico (including all the drugs & guns business that happens there), in which case you can charter an air ambulance & gather premium nursing staff from around the globe suiting your "gender discrimination" needs.
In case female doctors and attendant are not available, can husband be allowed to be there in that room?
Answer: Yes, you can be there in the examination room but of course not in the OR.
When female doctor is examining female, why are junior male doctor are allowed there and husband is asked to move out?
Answer: You can not question the presence of any doctor (of any gender) with the consultant examining your wife. Its as simple as that. And yes, you can be there too. But I'ld recommend you leave the room without anyone asking. Since you clearly do not take it well.
Tip of the day: 90% of medical problems arise from the obnoxious behavior of the Patient's Attendants. So, be a good attendant.

very useful article, everyone should read.This type medical problem everyone to face.Beside legal aspect
every patient and his/her party should consider humoral ground.I think if doctors can be unmarried and
dedicate their lives for human society and other all natural creations, they would be highly paid and mostly respected.

Your point is right.
But the female doctors are not sufficient enough to look after the patient's operation, then a male efficient doctors can attend the female patients, in the presence of husband or female doctors.
