Myself K.Vijaya Balaji director of Axe solutions as I am running my Company Current Account and Staffs salary account in your branch for the past 2 and half years still we did not get any personal loan approval from your side. We do have a preapproved loan eligibility of around 2 Lakhs for 4 to 5 employees but we did not get approval to avail our loan. Our Bank account details are given below,

Bait and Switch by HDFC Staff

I had applied for a personal loan of Two lakh rupees with HDFC, it was approved with ease.
The HDFC Bank representative, Mr Umesh Sahu, branxh Mehrauli New Delhi who was helping me with the procedure insisted that I apply for a personal loan of Five Lakhs, which I humbly refused.
He kept insisting that I can use the loan amount to earn interest by investing it further in HDFC mutual funds, fixed deposits etc.
I had categorically told him that my need is of two Lakhs only and any amount above that will be a liability I am not willing to sign up for.

We agreed to the amount of two Lakhs. It was agreed once I furnish all documents I will get the requested amount of Two Lakhs after deduction of the processing fee, I agreed to that.

On 12 August 2015, I received a SMS informing me that an amount of 5 lakhs minus processing fee has been credited to my account in the evening, outside of bank office hours.
Instead of getting the requested amount of 2 Lakhs, I received disbursement of Five lakh rupees.

This amount is huge for a person of humble means.

I was shocked, dismayed and angered by this as I had not agreed for this large a amount.
The very next day, I confronted Mr Sahu about the situation, he again insisted I invest all the excess amount received in other HDFC products.

I brought the issue to the Branch Manager's notice too the same day. Instead of guiding me about the procedure to cancel, Mr A. Govil, the Branch Manager at HDFC branch Mehrauli, too tried to persuade me to keep the amount and he further advised me to invest that amount in HDFC products. He even mocked me with derision for not accepting what was being given.

I understood one thing that day that's this is how HDFC or any other bank try to bind their customers by their Bait and Switch tactics.

I returned home without a solution to my problem that day.
After much thought, I decided to contact the HDFC phone banking for assistance as I was troubled with the thought of an impending liability for the years to come, I had to get the issue resolved.
The first agent I spoke with guided me as to how One can cancel the personal loan. She was quite helpful.
After being enlightened by her, I approached Mr. Sahu again regarding the cancellation of the personal loan that day his attitude changed he directed me to contact the Personal Loan Office at Green Park for cancellation.

When I requested a copy of my personal loan application he said that I cannot get it because it in the Bank's possession now. I found that reply very weird.

On August 17, 2015 I spoke with Manish Suri, customer service agent at HDFC Loan Office, Green Park regarding the issue. He advised that I can place a consumer complaint with them which will be actioned within 3-4 business days. He assured that my complaint will be taken on a serious note and that Customer complaints are actioned with sincerity.

With least faith in the consumer complaint procedures, I wrote and submitted my letter of complaint that day requesting for a waiver of excess charges owing to the wrong I had experienced.

I called HDFC customer service after 3 business days to check on the status of my complaint and to know why the Loan account has not been cancelled yet. The second agent was rude and she asked me to wait for 7 business days from the date of complaint, as it was still pending.

I called HDFC customer care third time on 7th business day, this time I spoke with agent Zyed, who informed me that I need to contact Mr Pradeep Singh at [protected] regarding the issue, who is the concerned contact point.

Next what followed was a Classic reply from Mr Pradeep Singh, who posed himself as the Sales Manager of HDFC Mehrauli branch- "You signed for the loan didn't you".

A curt slap to me for not taking the final copy of my signed personal loan application the day I signed it.

After much babble, he promised me a call back which I somehow knew will never happen. And obviously he did not call back.

Learning the fact that I was cheated by the sales tactics of the HDFC staff with utter dismay, I decided to cancel the Loan bearing all the excess charges which was unrightedly charged.
I not only had to pay the processing fee, I ended up paying the interest rate for the entire period during which the " CONSUMER COMPLAINT" was being tossed around by the bank ( that's 7 days of extra interest rate).
Thanks to Mr Manish Suri, HDFC added a dew of earning in their pockets. While I was getting fooled in believing that my complaint might actually make a difference, I guess someone else had a final laugh somewhere.

I had requested an immediate cancellation on 17th August 2015, since the complaint was "BEING REVIEWED" they did not cancel the loan. And, since the amount was in my account I was held liable for paying the interest rate obviously.

I have been a customer with HDFC Bank for well over a year. I was happy with the online banking experience, the intervention of human beings at a personal level ruined it.

I will not recommend HDFC products to anyone owing to the Bait and Switch practise I experienced with them.
I will advise other consumers who are considering to buy HDFC products at your Own risk.
Consider other options in the market.
