[Resolved]  Honda Unicorn — Defect in Bike and Customer Service

My name Arun Kumar and I bought a HONDA Unicorn from Didar Motors Chennai (#340 (old # 654), Anna Salai, Chennai – 600006) on 18th Feb 2008. The bike was good, until I found out this defect. This Unicorn Bike in allergic to water, the moment it gets wet the engine cools down and bike turns off. When I visited some websites to figure out what has gone wrong, I got replies from forum members saying it’s a common defect in UNICORN and I need to get this fixed. Being an Engineer I accept a defect can occur in a product, and I don’t blame HONDA for this. But what followed was even more surprising. First I went to Didar motors saying I have this problem, the guy had a look at the bike, looked at spark plug and then gave it back to me saying “Now it’s fine…” Four days after this had happened, we had rain in Chennai, and the same old problem reappeared. This time after completely getting myself drenched in rainwater I somehow managed to push my bike to a nearest service center JSP Honda Vepery. An authorized service center in charge gave me this reply “Sir. I understand your problem, but I suggest you to take it to Didar, we will have problems servicing it here”. Next day I went to Didar again, this time the person in charge of that service station said to a mechanic “Same problem which we had in the Black one, look into this…” I was finally happy; some one has recognized my bike’s problem. He got the bike back in 10 mins. I got even more excited thinking they have super mechanics who can fix such problems in matter of minutes. But I had doubts in my mind so finally decided to give it for First Service on 27th March (again in Didar). This time, I asked him to retest this problem. Next day I got the bike saying “It’s all fine….” Today 31st march again we had rain in Chennai, and again the problem reappeared. Again I took my bike to Didar at 6.15PM saying I have this problem, the attitude with which the person in charge replied to me has actually got me upset. The guy replied “Get the Bike tomorrow when it is raining, we will test drive the Bike in rain and then see what can be done….” in a manner, as if I am asking him for some HELP. I literally pleaded to him, to have my mike there and have a closer look at it. HONDA Company did not gift me this bike, I bought this Bike with my hard earned money for Rs 62, 160.00 + Rs 868.00 (accessories) and I expect only things which a person normally expects out of his Bike and nothing more. For all along I was quite, but now I feel things are going above a tolerable level. Consumer’s right should be protected, and it is not only the responsibility of a Company but also (Dealers, Sub dealers) every single person associated with it. I don’t know whom I should report this to, so I send this mail to every single mail ID of persons whom I think can really help me. Check it up with a local mechanic's help. Don't go to authorized dealer if not satisfied.
Dear Honda You have sold bikes like any thing but what about the service to the customer .If you visit any Honda Service centres in Bangalore to name a few Haiku Hinda (indiranagar) and Planet Honda (Rajaji nagar) they treat customers as dogs.they will do servicing as if they are doing favour to the customer and the quality of service is pathetic.If you are not capable of providing the sevice then please stop selling the bikes .

I harish babu i have buy honda unicorn 4 months back.but when i given second service there was leakage of oil from engine head even i told the problem was not solved...and nuts are not tightened properly...and also second leakage was stared from engine bottom side nut...so kindly reply as soons as possible...
while driving in road it will automatically engine off

I have claimed my honda unicorn on july 2007 in 'ARYABANGI HONDA'- aluva, kerala. They informed me that they replaced the parts such as alloy wheels, front shocks, front visor, sylencer, brake pedal etc. even the surveyor, has passsed all the parts, they delayed my vehicled for arround 3 weeks for delivery. after some months when i inspected the vehicle, it was found that the 'T- Stem' has also complaint. when i reported it to the dealership, they told me that it should replaced in paid. My question is why they dont replaced the above part at the time of claim?. Is it neccessary that i should replaced the part in paid? my vehicle is now in the same dealership. pls look forward to the matter.

I bought a vehicle Bajaj discover 110 CC.

During rainy seasons, I am finding it very difficult to drive. The vehicle stops then and there and I will have to start again.

I have struggled a lot in many occasions due to this problem due to this design problem.

In summer seasons, the vehicle is okay. I request Bajaj to take up this issue and act immediately. I have purchase the vehicle by paying Rs.43500.00 and not happy with the vehicle performance.

I have given to many service centres but the problem is continuing.

I have not got the good vehicle for the money I have paid to Bajaj.

Hence I am seling the vehicle since Balaj is not going to do anythining for its customers. Their concentration is only on selling.

I brought a new unicorn from your dealer honda metrix mangalore(dealer code-KA 020001) on 04/09/2008.
with in 45 days my bike is undergone 4 general repairs (engine rough sound) and maney more problems. my bike is inspected by your company engineer. he is allso agree with my complaint. but i haven't got any soloution from your honda2wheelersindia . so withdraw your difected bike and provide me new one . this is my second complent .i can't wait any more . reply me with in 48 hours or i will go to " consumer court" .against honda motorcycle & scooterindia (pvt) ltd.

I think this comment would be so useful to u guys...i think i have faced all problems what u guys have posted here in my bike...as anand suri 's handle bar problem, arun kumar prob during rainy days, lijin's prob in lileage...Russel pinheiro's jump start prob...

First of all i will start from the beginning.. when i wanted to buy a bike.i had so much confidence in honda thinking that its a foreigh make and so on...even now i dont blame honda...its a good bike ... but the bike becomes the worst one because of the " SERVICE PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE CENTERS...": i am afraid that i am losing m respect for HONDA.one thing i found is that the have something called JOB CARD... in hospitals when a patient gets admitted and gets dischaged, the hospitals maintains something called as PATIENT RECOED SHEET... this will be used again when the patient come there., .But these maintain the JOB CARD only till the service is done and through it off.i recommend that these keep a complaint record of ll the bkes which they sold in their HARD DRIVES as files of atlest in paper files... everytime we need to start fresh about the prob faced in our bikes .if they could refer the previous prob they could do the sevice welll...

friends does someone know any way ti complain about the service center...any HONDA"S e mail id or something like that...

1) my unicorn 150 cc Black and grey .self start model.. bought on april 2008 was giving a mileage of 56-58 p/l in traffice conditons in chennai... amazing na...i had my first service done ...Those did somehting and this time it was only 35-40.what can i do with 35-40...

before the service the bike was so smooth and noise free.even when i ride in 50km(before 1 st service so didnt cross 50 km) there was absolute silence.. after service i heard the engines pumping noise ( whcih is common in bikes), but it must not have been in the case o[censored]nicorn...


2) My tripmeter was bad and all digits used to rotate at the same time... i have finished 4 services by now ... NOV 2008... every time i tell the serveice guy ...they look into the problem and reset the tripmeter to 0000 as if they have serviced, but the problem starts again.dont they have sense to ride the bike for a distance and check it...


3)i need to appriciate in one thing, or call it my luck i got the bike in 4 days after booking...the person said sir we had a new load of bikes delivered today...i think its my LUCK and not the dealers initiative, , , , , , ,

4) As russell said when i change gears( this happens sometimes) the bike ROARS like any thing and with a cracking sound the gear gets changed...

5)AS Anand Suri said i had the same handle bar jammimg problem when i bought the bike..told them once they didnt do it... shouted during the 2nd services .they did it . the reason is because the wires found near the front suspension block the handle bar and front part from turning to full extent...

5 )As arun kumar of chennai said i too have the engine problem when riding in rainy conditions... during the last week 20--25 of october 2008 .rains were heavy in chennai .i had driven my bike in water in T.nagar area...( water only splashed on my engine, engine didnt get submergerd .ok )... after this my engines sound was very bad... pickup was not very good...i felt something like the bike had engine misfiring and though i raise the accelerator the bike was not accelerating as it used to do...




I could recommend on e thing.dont go for authorised service center after ur FREE SERVICE COUPONS are over, ... find a god local mechanic guy and service ur bike with him...i still now believe the proverb... A GARLAND IN THE HANDS OF MONKEYS...A nice JAPANESE technology bike be it UNICORN/SHINE/ACTIVA is being RAPED in the hands of INDIAN SERVICE GUYS( THESE DONT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A JAPANESE BIKES, where do the dealers recruit them and train them on japanese bikes...its same going to ur local services guy and authorised services guy...

They are promised me to Give a Vehicle within 60 Days still no body bother about that... I have visited that JSP Honda couple of times, More than 10 times nad Contact Mr Kamesh and some other your personnel...

May i know the exact date of Delivery... Why your cheating the customer Like that...

Kindly do the needful, A think you Know without two Wheeler how can do work because iam a marketing Executive.. kindly look in to this matter seriously and take severe action...

I request the M.D. of the honda company to plz lookover the service station here in Nizamabad ( Sai Ram Honda, HYD Road, Dist : Nizamabad, State: Andhra Pradesh, Country: India).
They don't have any respect for the customers. For them customers are meant headaches. I many times reported problems regarding Vibrating of vehicle 2- 3 Times but they neglected and i have to solve this problem from an out sider not only this but also many. We are really enjoying technology but the service managers at service centers are not showing attentiveness on the vehicle at the time of servicing . If this happens what about our problems !.

I am karan brar from bathinda i bought honda unicorn on30june2007 .i would like to bring to notice that i took claim from bathinda honda showroom .when they took my bike for changing the part they had given the dublicate coloured part that was seat colouing .i asked them to change the part and give me the original part they started misbehaving with me .the way the treated me was tereble .my problem is not solved til now . SIR I AM NOT HAPPY WITH HONDA .IF YOU ARE CAPABLE OF THIS PLZ STOP SELLING BIKES.i cant solve my problem plz help me .this is unbleveable that an international company has this cheap kind of problem.sir plz hetp me.

29-11-07: I was feeling satisfied for having purchased a Unicorn bike with my own earned money in JSP motors, Chennai. The bike was doing good and I appreciated myself for my choice till i came to service my bike. The first service was acceptable(Bike had no problems then). I was denied the 2nd service for delay in service by 10 days instead it would be considered 3rd service. I too agreed.
For each service they had changed the time for taking the bike for servicing but there was no prior intimation. For each service i had to reach the service centre for a minimum of 4 times before i can get the bike serviced. They dont have concern on customers at all. I thought i was one among thousands who experienced bad servicing before i came across this page.
I myself dint suggest this product for 2 of my friends, and they chose others product.
Honda is losing its value coz of such complaints.

I mailed you earlier also about the service of my unicorn bike which I bought in the year 2007 and all its services were on time and than also it started giving white smoke when i drive it, I requested u earlier to please give me free service along with the parts of the engine, from your side I got a call and you told that you will call me back with next 48 hours the time is up now and I didnt received any call again from your side, please do it urgently, as i am in marketing field I have to work on my bike through out the day, and i dont any of its part to get damage. waiting eagerly for your reply.
I have one query regarding the product quality issue.
I loved to drive honda unicorn thats why we purchased 3 honda unicorn and one stunner from Honda

But unfortunately I have been facing a problem in all three bikes that body o[censored]nicorn is broken from the back side (upper portion of tail light).may be locks from inside got broken in all three bikes.

Please suggest or inform me on my cell about the product quality so I will stop telling other to purchase this bike,
as there is fault in product.Now we will not purchase any product of honda,

Plz dont prefer Honda Unicorn. Service is very very bad. And the bike is not at all stable for rainy conditions.
