[Resolved]  India Today Book Club — Non receipt of free gifts

I have paid in full the amount Rs. 1099 in cash for which I was supposed to have been given 8 Music CDs produced by Music India, one Reebok T-shirt and One Bag. I received the Cds on 27th March. I tried to log on to the website intimated by India Today group www.bookstoday.in/promos.htm, but could not. I tried calling teh land line number[protected] and was told the website is out of order and till the website is restored nothing can be done about the free gifts. I have been given a number but if the claim is not made within two months the claim is automatically invalidated. What can I do?

I had registered for Rs.60 lacs sweepstake entry through envelop
Thereafter I got a phone call from ITBC offering pack of Sur Saaz aur Taal CD's @Rs.2599. In return they have informed the following free gifts worth Rs.14000/- would be provided alogwith the CD's :

1. Voucher worth Rs.7000 for air travel in India.
2. Wrishwatch from United Color of Benneton.
3. Holiday voucher for Rs.5000
4. 1 key chain
5. 1 leather purse.

I have received vide their invoice no.ORAO90009534 dated 07.02.09 only the CD's, whereas all other things as above have not been received.

On speaking to at the call centre no. they have informed to log on their website bookstoday.in/promos.htm and claim free gifts by mentioning the unique identification number.

Unfortunately after trying several times it is not being logged and shows error in the identification number.

ITBC have failed in their commitments and have failed to deliver the freebies and now are giving excuse of logging on their sites for claiming the gifts. It is misleading and people are fooled after they have made the payment.

On 12 Feb. 09, I received a call from India today Book club saying that my entry for India today book club is chosen as final entry to receive some prize money of 50000 Rs plus some free gift vouchers of about Rs. 14000 including some Air Travel package. ( I was sending these entries for this lucky draw type prize from India today book club for sweepstakes of Rs. 2400000 from about last six months or so )

And to claim the free gift I have to pay only 400 Rs. ( for what I don’t know?) and I was asked to pay it by Credit Card only. So I told my credit card no. and to enter my CVV no. I was transferred to some other automated system. After that I was given the booking ID no.[protected] and I was told that I will receive this gift within 2 or 3 weeks.

But that day I received a message from my credit card bank that I have made a transaction of Rs. 2598 with Living Media. ( I was told 400 Rs. By the person from india today book club )

After some days I received a message that my order 0GA[protected] for Rs. 2598 has been dispatched. I got it yesterday and it is a set of about 12 to 13 books ( which I haven’t ordered at all) .

On the invoice it is written that claim your free gifts by logging on to www.bookstoday.in/promos.htm.

When I am trying to claim my free gifts on this link it is giving me message that I have made incorrect entries.

When I called the customer care number on 26 Feb. 09, I was put on hold for about 8 min., but my call was not connected to any person to talk for assistance to claim the free gifts.



So please assist me in this matter.



Is it the way India Today Book Club is earning money by betraying the customers by telling them something else and sending something else that has not been ordered at all and asking for some small amount and deducting an amount much more greater than it from the credit card?

India Today Book Club — Non receipt of CD & Free Gift - Money already paid

I had ordered TWO sets of Element audio CDs on Dec 31st, 2008 vide order number OGA[protected]. The costing of each set was Rs 1499 including delivery charges. The payment against the order was made through my credit card. The total amount for TWO sets was Rs 2998 which has already been paid to the Credit Card company.

The order for only ONE set was processed and delivered to me on around Jan 10th vide invoice number ORA[protected]. On receipt of only ONE set, I immediately called the India Today Book Club, and they assured me to send the second set at the earliest. I made numerous calls and everytime I was assured that the second set would be sent to my address. Again, I made the call today, and I was told that the system is not working and I was asked to call again tomorrow. I

t is been almost 2 months that I paid India Today the full amount, and have been following up but no one has taken any complaint or feedback seriously. I know many other people in my office who are facing the same issue. Not sure if it is a racket run by India Today to resolve their liquidity problem during this recession time.

Apart from the non receipt of CDs, I have following other points to highlight :

1. The condition of CD & free gift is pathetic. I was planning to give one set to my friend who lives overseas but now looking at the condition of the CDs, I am reluctant to do so.

2. The quality of Customer Service staff is so bad that they don't know what they are checking and responding.

3. Claiming of free gift is so cumbersome that consumer might think of just leaving it.

I would request the authorities to look into my complaint and improve the quality of product offered & customer service. I have lot of faith on India Today (have been a regular subscriber of India Today magazine and Mail Today), and don't want to loose that trust & faith due to this transaction.

I too suffered like this. I purchased goods from Indiatoday bookclub vide invoice no ORA[protected]/12.1.2009, TILL NOW NOT ABLE TO AVAIL FREE GIFTS. Spend Rs 500 for telephone calls to them. Till now no response.

India Today — Non delivery of products ordered in spite of full advance

Dear Sir

Two month ago i have book one order in India Today Book Club through Internet, actually i receives the mail from them as a free gift but for that i have to pay Rs 2599/ amount.

I have paid the money through my icici credit card, but still on date i didnt receive that order. Moreover i had called many times to customer care but as per them i have not paid the money but when i receive the call from their verification department, they told i have paid the money & very soon i will get my order.This show the communication gap/loop hole in the departments.

I have receive my icici credit card statement, in which it is reflecting that i have paid the money to India Today Book Club.

This process is repeating from last two month, so many times i have intimate them but vain.

Now i do not want that order but i want my money back, so kindly help me for the same and tell me the procedure.

India Today Book Club — AFTER MAKING PAYMENT OF RS.2599/-, DELIVERY OF GOODS HAS NOT BEEN MADE

I had given an order through website vide order No.OGA[protected] and also swap the credit card. The details of the order are given below:-

1. 20 pack of CD
2. Gift voucher of Rs.5, 000/-
3. Air-ticket of Rs.7, 000/-
4. Reebok Shoes
5. Surprise Gift i.e. Wallet

The aforesaid order was made during the month of November, 2008. But when I received the statement of credit card, I surprised to see that the card was not swaped as the payment was not mentioned in the card. I immediately contacted over telephone No.40502424 to know the status of my order. They have confirmed that the aforesaid items will be delivered to you within 15 days time and payment may be made by cash. But after repeated requests, I have not received the items. They had also given the consignment No.[protected] of T&T Transporter. When I visited the site of T&T Transpoters, it has been found that the iterms were shiped on 4th December, 2008 but the same was undelivered and returned to the orgin on 23rd December, 2008. It is not understood why the article was shown as undelivered even it was not received to my office address.

HOWEVER, AGAIN I CONTACTED AND THEY HAVE REQUESTED TO FIRST PAY THE AMOUNT THAN IT WILL BE DELIVERED. ACCORDINGLY, ON 9TH FEBRUARY, 2009, MY LINE WAS CONNECTED TO THE CONCERNED DEPARTMENT AND ACCORDINGLY I HAD MADE THE PAYMENT THROUGH CREDIT CARD. I WAS GIVEN THE BOOKING ID NO.[protected] AND CODE NO.OGA[protected]. BUT STILL I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE ITEMS.

TODAY, WHEN I RECEIVED MY CREDIT CARD BILL, I NOTED THAT PAYMENT HAS BEEN SHOWN IN MY BILL OF RS.2599/- BUT TILL DATE I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE ITEMS. I AGAIN CONTACTED OVER PHON NO.40502424 AND HAD TALK WITH MR ANKIT. HE CHEKED THE RECORD AND FOUND THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE PAYMENT. I SUPRISED TO SEE AFTER A MONTH, THE RECORD WAS NOT UPDATED EVEN I HAD MADE THE PAYMENT ON 9TH FEBRUARY, 2009. SCAN COPY OF MY CREDIT CARD BILL IS ATTACHED HEREWITH WITH A REQUEST TO EXPEDITE THE ORDER AS I MADE IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER AND AGAIN 9TH FEBRUARY, 2009.

I REQUEST YOU TO KINDLY LOOK INTO THE MATTER AND ENSURE THAT THESE TYPEs OF PROBLEMS COULD NOT BE ARISE TO OTHERS.

India Today Book Club — Free Gifts associated with buy of 20 CDs

In response to offer of 3D AND 2N holiday package for a couple + Air flight coupon worth Rs 7000 on purchase of 20 CD S @ Rs.2000+500+ postal charges I ordered the same.I received the consignment by VPP which I cleared by paying Rs. 2599 . ( INVOICE NO ORA[protected] DT[protected].
I followed their procedure to claim free gifts and sent through courier all documents along with DD for Rs. 800 . on 10 =02 -2009 . Regretfully the mail came back undelivered with remark " no such address and no response from given Tel. no. Subsequently I have been sending e-mails to different persons since each time I send mail different person replies. The Tel. nos given, of NOIDA office[protected] and New Delhi[protected] are not reachable.( hangs up after being made to wait for 4-5 min )
I wanted to utilise the holiday package before April 20, 2009 which seems impossible now .Next period avalable under the scheme is during winter which may not suit me.

In case the party wants to make good the time lost and want to act on request before I send the documents again I want correct postal address and contact tel, no.
I do hope a reputed organisation such as INDIA TO-DAY will act responsibly on my complaint
