Subject: Complaint regarding problem faced during travel in Train - CSTM CHENNAI EXpress (Train no. 1041) dated 14th September 2008 from Mumbai Dadar to Chennai Central.

Respected Sir,

With due respect we Citizen of India and patronised customers of Indian railway, want to bring in to your kind attention about the problems we faced during the journey from Mumbai Dadar to Chennai Central on 14/Sept/2008 by CSTM CHENNAI EXpress (Train no. 1041). Following troubles we faced in 2nd AC Coach No. A-1 (Wagon no C R 84056).

1. While boarding the train at Dadar, we noticed that the toilets were unclean and impossible to use. As our seats were near the exit doors and as people opened the doors to get in and get out, we were experiencing the bad smell through out our journey. In spite o[censored]s complaining 4-5 times with the Tiket Checkers, there was no corrective action taken against the same. Hope you could understand our situation while we were having our food.

2. A/C was not working in our coach and when we complained about the same the person responsible for A/c said it is automatic system and will adjust automatically. But it was not at all working and only hot air was coming through the blower. After complaining several times along with other passengers, the A/C was switched on that too after completing initial 4 hours of journey. Also there was no fan available in the specific bay (Seat No 44, 45) which made us suffocate.

3. All the bed sheets were stinking and were unwashed. The soil stains were visible on the same. When we complained about this to the attending person, he said that this is what is available and it is up to us to use it or keep it aside.

4. Curtains were stinking badly and this made us suffocate.

5. All the items sold inside train by the railway caterers were of feable quality and less in quantity.
e.g :
a) Tea was charged at Rs.5 but was provided only 2/3rd of the suggested quantity.
b) Lunch Meals (Veg) was charged at Rs. 48/- per meal and it was of bad quality. (Includes uncooked roti prepared with mix of Maida, Watery Dhall, Salty Channamasala had only 6-7 pieces of channa, Salty Sabji had all the waste vegetables such as cabbage stems, one pickle packet, half cooked rice, half piece pappad and one small cup of Raita which was watery, extremely sour, and stinking bad)

Details of the caterer : M/S R.K.Agarwal (Licencees Pantry car 1041/1042/1027/1028)
Receipt no : 1625

When I went and complained about the food quality to the pantry manager, he said that this is the maximum quality available in the train and they couldn't provide curd as promised while taking order because of limited availability of curd and lack of refrigeration system in the pantry.

When I returned the Raita which was provided as a replacement for curd, he simply accepted it and said it is part of the meal and it is upto our choice to have it or not.

When we requested for the bill for the food, there was no response from the pantry manager. I had to walk 3-4 times to the pantry which was located 5 wagons away from our coach, to followup to get the receipt.

At the time of taking order, they mentioned that Papad and curd are part of the meal. But at the time of demanding receipt, they gave a spit up in which they mentioned the price of each meal as Rs.32/- and Rs.16 towards 1 cup curd and 1/2 pappad. When I argued about the return of raitha and papd, the pantry manager said that the same price will be charged even though we've returned the same.

Also they said that we can complain at any level with the receipt given and the caterer's management has influence at top management (including cabinet railways minister) to handle such complaints.

Due to the bad quality of food, Mr.J.Sethuraman who travelled with me (senior citizen) had severe stomach ache and dysentry.

We request you to kindly investigate this on high priority and provide response towards corrective actions taken, in 2 weeks time.

Kindly note that we did not face hygenic issues while travelling for short distances (e.g. Chennai - Bangalore) in trains like Shatabdi. Also when we travelled from Chennai to Mumbai on Chennai express on 12th Sept 2008 in 3rd A/C we felt more comfortable (but food quality was bad)

where as when we paid more money towards 2nd AC we experience more trouble and inconvenience.

Your’s truly

Indian Railways — Electric Trains requires Doors in Chennai

This is a very sad incident of me, losing my brother in an electric train accident. He went to college and while returning back home in the evening, he was about to get down in his stop, while he slipped inside :`(. Please imagine the amount of rush in the electric trains in the peak hours. I lost a wonderful brother, his friends lost his friendship and his parents lost their ever loving kid. He is just 17 years old and this is not the age to die.

I have heard of many such accidents in electric trains. I would please recommend doors in Electric trains which will be very helpful. The doors should open only when the train completely stops. Why is that its in our country, we do not respect someones life. I don't want any one else to lose their lives because of the problem in invention and science.

As a sincere tax payer, please do take this seriously and recommend doors in electric trains which will not kill any lives further.

Indian Railways — foul smell in AC 3tier

WE WERE TRAVELLING FROM MUMBAI CENTRAL TO VADODARA ON 21-12-08 IN AC 3 TIER COACH B2 ON SEATS 5, 7, 8. ON ENTERING THE COACH WE REALISED THERE WAS SOME BAD SMELL AROUND AND THE CURTAINS AND SEATS WERE STINKING. I ASKED FOR A COMPLAINT REGISTER AT THAT MOMENT TO THE TICKET CHECKER AND HE NEVER TURNED UP AGAIN. IN CASE THERE IS SOME AUTHORITY TO CHECK ON GENIUNE COMPLAINS BY US PLEASE DO SO, AS AFTER PAYING SO MUCH WE COULD NOT GET A PEACEFUL SLEEP ON THE NIGHT OF TRAVEL.
What more do you expect in this filthy country? Soon you will see snakes also. This is a slum dog country where more than 100 people are cramped into a coach like filthy pathetic animals. Accept, compromise and please try to live without any complaints. If you cannot, then migrate to a better country please. slumdogs dot wordpress dot com
I totally agree to the attitude and the condition of the train i.e[protected] chenai-mumbai-chenai. I have just travelled in the train this week, what I found was that the 2 tier a.c was given an very old heritage boogie, which did not have a charger connection at all. I was surprised to see that the 3 tier a.c had the connections but not the 2 tier. Why, coz we paid more.????? The food was just o.k, but the attitude of the pantry guy needs a good scrubbing.
I also faced same situation while I was travelling from Delhi to Jammu by Ajmer-Jammu Express in 3tier AC. The door of the bath room can not be closed for which lady members travelling with our team faced a great problem. The train was running 9 hours late Therefore we were tired and wanted to take rest but it could not be done as the AC was not working properly. We did not get food during the entire travel as there was no Pantry Car with the Train. This is the normal situation of the Train Services.
My suggestion to everyone who this Pantry food is good, think again, I visited on of the pantries and trust me after seeing that, I never had guts to eat that good.

Food is prepared in dirty water, there is no cleanness, bottom line, save yourself, do not eat, I would suggest if any official care about it, do a surprise check...you will be surprised ... and will never be able to eat train food.
In the new budget there are no improvements for Travel between Mumbai and Chennai.

By this mail I request frequent travellers to form an Association and make continous complaints to Indian Railways.

Unless this is done, there is no scope of improvement in this sector.

BAD EXPERIANCE TRAVELLING IN DADAR EXP. — BAD EXPERIANCE TRAVELLING IN DADAR EXP.

Dear Sir, Date- 26/06/09

Last time when I was traveling in 2nd AC compartment from Guwahati to Itarsi in Dadar Exp had a horrible experience. It was so dirty inside cant explain. The floors, windows, bathrooms etc. There were no tapes inside the toilet, Insects were running here and there, food was not properly cooked, outsiders in Bihar getting inside the AC compartment. We everyone whoever was traveling with families felt unsecured and prayed to God to cross Bihar as soon as possible. The authority should take steps to improve all these problems and make our journey comfortable and safe. We are ready to pay more but please whoever in concerned look after these matters immediately. We the people of northeast things we are always neglected please don’t make us believe it. We are also Indians and have the rights to enjoy facilities like others. We have great hopes in our running Govt and believe it’s the Govt for middle class people and will do the needful as early as possible.

Thanking you.

Yours faithfully

N.R.Hazarika.
