These kind of frauds are very common in the internet world. First the fraudsters will send personalized email claiming that the recipient has won an unimaginable amount and then they have to submit their details like name, address, phone number, email id, BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER etc., By collecting this information, the scamster will either use it to access your bank account via various means or to just make the victim feel more comfortable. Once the victim has fallen for the trap, the victim will receive scamster's contact details like email id and phone number or even call from the fraudster. Typically these numbers are either stolen mobiles or registered under wrong names.
After this the game starts, the fraudster will ask his victim to pay some amount say 1000 pounds or dollars towards handling charges. If the victim has still not realized his mistake, then the fraudster will ask him for his internet banking details (again for two purpose, to hack your account or to transfer false amount). When he says that the amount is getting transferred, the fraudster wins another round of trust. These transfers will usually get an error at 90-99% after completion. Hence another round of payment is demanded from the victim. So the process continues until the victim realizes his mistake and usually it will be too late.
These scams have taken a new turn and people are getting mobile alerts regarding the same. Please note that these people have got softwares and other means to get your name, number and email id for such purposes. So even if it is a personalized email or alert, please verify the authenticity from the company they claim to be.
