I bought a Sony Mini Hi-Fi Component system GNZ999D in May 2008 for Rs. 29000/-. Last month the system had a problem. A few seconds after it was switched on it went back to the standby mode and i was never able to run it. I took it to the service center and was told that the IC has to be replaced since it was slightly corroded. This was done and i was charged Rs.1649/-. About 10 days later when I tried switching on the system, the same problem arose. When i contacted the service center they sent a technician a few days later and i was told that the main board has to be replaced and that would cost me Rs. 13000/-. I was shocked to hear that as I have hardly used it and i really don't expect a reputed company like Sony to provide a sub-standard product. Though the warranty period is over one does not expect an expensive and branded gadget to last just 2 years. Even though more expensive than other brands, the reason for me to choose a Sony product is because of its reputed quality but i am extremely disappointed. One cannot be shedding thousands of rupees every 2 years just to maintain a music system.
