Education Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme
I have taken an education loan from SBI Bannerghatta Branch. MHRD has now come up with "Education Loan Subsidy Scheme" for students. The bank communicated us about a wrong limit (which they say is 10 lakhs). There is no mention of the same anywhere on MHRD site. When I talked to manager regarding this, his behaviour was very abrupt and told that this was the communication from Canara Bank which is selected as a nodal contact for executing the same. I donot understand how the limit can be 10 lakhs when IIMs charge more than 12 lakhs as fees only. I have already complained about the same to MHRD & Canara Bank. SBI people behave very immature and shocking way. I want a clarification.

Sanctioned education to my son from State Bank of India, Thiruvananthapuram, Technopark Branch of Rs.40000/- on August 2009 and first & second year fee has been allotted to me. my son taken education loan in 2006 Jan.he was adimitted in july 2005.
wether he is eligible for intt.subsidy paid during 2009-10

Hi,
I am also facing similar situation. I took loan from SBI Branch IIM Lucknow. At the time of taking the loan I asked for a loan amount to cover my fees alone which was 8.27 lakh. But the bank asked me to go for a higher amount by including mess fees, travel, laptop, monthly payout and all and finally sanctioned 12 lakhs. At that time they told I will be charged interest on the amount I finally draw from the loan account.
But now when i enquired about the interest subsidy. they are insisting on this 10 lakh limit which is nowhere mentioned in the directive of MHRD. Had i known this in advance i wouldnt have taken loan of 12 lakhs.
Also in the directive of MHRD, they specifies that this new scheme will benifit students from IIMs. Most of the IIMs are charging fees way above 10 lakh. So I don't understand this 10 lakh limit logic.
I hope MHRD will come out with some stern directive on this.

I have taken educational loan 1 lak from Tamil nadu Mercantile Bank coimbatore on 2009 to 2010. when i'm asking about interest subsidy they said that they didn't receive any order from government. please tell me whether that bank is eligible to provide this scheme.

I HAVE TAKKEN LOAN FROM SBBJ, JAIPUR EDUCATION LOAN FOR MBA AMETI UNIVERSITY, JAIPUR AND I HAVE ALSO APPLIED FOR SUBSIDY FOR INTEREST BEFORE SIX MONTH BUT I AM VERY SORRY TO SAY THAT TILL DATE I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY COMNICATION OR CREDIT FOR THE SAME A MY ACCOUNT DEBITED EVERY MONTH BY INTEREST AMOUNT. I agree to above comments. Moreover I would like to know that even though I have submitted all the relevant documents, for educational loan subsidy, till date not a single manager or even concerned officers are able to reply my status of the application of the educational loan. My application branch is SBI, Kankaria, Ahmedabad.

I have taken education loan from sbi hisar for education in us in MS biomedical course in the year 2009-10 but till date I have not received the subsidy claim from your bank who is nodal bank for reimbursement. i have taken education loan from canara bank nileshwar branch in kerala. nw my course s over and searching for job. m still using the same account but the bank s pulling money from my account without informing me. the manager behaved very harshly when i complain about it.i request u to take any quick action against it bcoz m not able to take money 4m my account.yours sincerely

My name is Sofiya beegum, I have taken an education loan amount of Rs:64500
( Ac/no:1037 651 4682 )from canara bank pidavoor branch, Kollam dist in 2004, still now I didn’t get a job but paid my capital amount of Rs:64500. and an amount of Rs:60000 outstanding in my loan.I have already submit a request for the deduction of interest. Now i am doing my post BSC in banglore.I cannot able to pay this huge amount of interest...kindly do the needful things for the subsidy of education loan interest
