The Green Card Lottery is the root of many e-mail scams. Do NOT send money.

1) The DV-2012 lottery results won't be released until May 1 and will only be available through the US Department of State's website at: www.dvlottery.state.gov

2) The US Department of State NEVER communicates with lottery winners by e-mail.

For more information on the lottery, check my blog post from last October: http://usavisablog.blogspot.com/2010/10/dv-2012-green-card-lottery-begins-this.h...

To report e-mail lottery scams to the US government, contact the US Federal Trade Commission: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt003.shtm

http://forums.cnet.com/[protected]_[protected].html?tag=rb_content;forums06

DO NOT SEND MONEY!!!

THIS IS SCAM!!!
I too received the same letter
she asks me to send 846 dollars with western union
what can i do???
Hello everyone,

THIS E-MAIL is a scam! First of all you need to look at the address: gov.usa.[protected]@usa.com
That is NOT the email for the US state department, it's just some jerk who has created this account and is trying to extort money. The State Department doesn't notify people through email. They only send letters. Then look at where the money is going:
Name : Allan Hall
Address: 24 Grosvenor Square
London, W1A 2LQ
United Kingdom

Do you really think that the US government would have a private individual? They don't do that, the explanation in the thief's email is: "The payment must be sent to the above U.S. embassy agent address in United Kingdom because the U.S. Government decided this based on the diplomatic relations with your country." Ok, horrible grammar aside, that is not the address of the UK embassy and it would make no sense for the government to get money through that.
DO NOT SEND THESE PEOPLE ANY MONEY!!! PLEASE!

Thanks,
Lily
Hi all,

Today I also received that kind of email...And they wanted me to pay $885.

INSTRUCTIONS

Please read and follow all the instructions very carefully. With the Diversity Visa (also known as Green Card) you will enjoy all the advantages and benefits of a US permanent resident, including health and education benefits, and employment opportunities along with guidance in your new country, orientation sessions and programs to integrate into mainstream American society. Once received you can use it at any time you want to move in the United States or just travel. The visa must be renewed after 10 years.

Although you will have all the rights that a U.S. citizen has in the United States, without a relative or friend in the United States you may find the relocation difficult and expensive due the lack of experience in the American society. Therefore the U.S. Government helps you with the accommodation and offers you along with each visa Health Insurance (Freedom HSA Direct Individual Health insurance for 1 year), Dwelling(Apartment in any city you prefer, 1 bedroom for 3 months ), a guaranteed job(in the field that you are are currently qualified so you can start working even from the first week you arrive in the United States and get paid as U.S citizen. ) and education (for U.S. Students or Higher Education through EducationUSA. It includes transfer to a U.S college or Univeristy so you can continue your educational study. More details can be found at http://educationusa.state.gov/ .)

We remind you that only the visa processing fee ($880) is mandatory and the visa is guaranteed upon receiving the payment.

Accompanying family members(wife/husband, fiancee, brothers, sisters, children, cousins) may be included in the program and their visas will be provided at the same time with yours so you can travel/move together in the same time. However the fees must be paid per person and each member(e.g wife, brother, parents, children, cousin) must pay $880. There is no discount for children.

hi i have ressived email frome gov/[protected]@usa.com for won green cart but i will must payment 884$ for peter mcaer whit western union i think it fake eamil for me
I am Ertug Basgut from Turkey, I received an email from the same adress on 10 th of Feb.which is completely containing the same requests with the other complaints in above. Their demand is 885 USD to be sent by Western Union to Muhith Masih, 24 Grosvenor Square London, W1A 2 LQ, UK.

This is a real crime. What can I do to make an official complaint about this scam? Pls advise.
These scammers should be prisoned!

My mother just received the same e-mail, but from Ian Hueston, again 24 Grosvenor Square, London, W1A 2LQ. She was so extremely happy and (since she can't really read all in English) was about to go through the proccess. I asked her to forward me the e-mails and I was so surprised to see, that there are fees (and let's admit, $880 and more is hell a lot of money).

I had some doubts that this might be fraud, so the first place I checked was the US Department of State website - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html. There is Fraud Warning section where it simply says "The Department of State does NOT notify successful Diversity Visa applicants by e-mail."

Then I went through the INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE 2012 DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT VISA PROGRAM (DV-2012) and on page 9 it says:

"Important Note: Notifications to those selected in the random lottery are not sent by e-mail. Official
notifications of selection will be made through - Entry Status Check, available from May 1, 2011 on the
E-DV website www.dvlottery, state.gov. The KCC will no longer send selectee notifications or letters
by regular postal mail. Should you receive an e-mail notification or a mailed letter about your E-DV
selection, be aware that the notification is not legitimate. It is only after you are selected, and
respond to the notification instructions made available to you via Entry Status Check, and processing
begins on your case, that you may receive follow-up e-mail communication from the KCC informing
you to review Entry Status Check for new information about your application. The KCC will not ask
you to send money to them by mail or by services such as Western Union."

Also the whole section 32 (HOW WILL I KNOW IF THE NOTIFICATION OF SELECTION THAT I HAVE RECEIVED IS AUTHENTIC?) explains in detail once all over that any e-mail received is a scam, is not legitimate or authentic. (You can check that info here - http://travel.state.gov/pdf/1318-DV2012Instructions-ENGL.pdf )

Thanks God my mom didn't proceed with the rediculous fee (in her case they wrote "We remind you that only the visa processing fee ($880) is mandatory and the visa is guaranteed upon receiving the payment.") which is another fraudulent thing! People who apply should be well informed that US Visa is NEVER guaranteed! Even if you have been selected from the KCC!

I spent my morning in reading blogs and forums from all over the world, where hundreds of people shared the same experience. Same e-mail address, same letter, same UK address. Only amounts requested and name of the recepient varied (from $400 to $890). I also read that US authorities are aware of the fact, as well as the UK ones. I was suprised that the story still continues, but probably there are some reasons these people could not be sued.

Thank you, guys, for reading this, thanks God my mom didn't fall for that and once again, remember:

Notifications to those selected in the random lottery are NOT sent by e-mail.
and
The KCC will NOT ask you to send money to them by mail or by services such as Western Union.

Cheers!
