HDFC Bank — HDFC Bank Regalia Credit card wrongful annual fee deduction

Let me explain the ordeal that I am going through with HDFC bank Credit cards - Regalia I am an existing HDFC bank account holder for over 10 years now ( classic customer with personal banker attached who gives prompt call asking for shares/investments!) and I had a pretty decent credit card without any annual fee. Sometime in the beginning of 2014 I got a call from HDFC stating congratulations you have just won a brand new Credit Card as free upgrade which gives more redeem reward points on every money you spend, and that too life time free card. Unfortunately HDFC will only migrate 40% of existing points to the new one as HDFC cannot afford the huge loss it will incur otherwise!!!. I fell pray to this and accepted the card. On May 3rd 2014 I got an SMS to my registered mobile stating first year annual fee is free and then onwards Rs 2500+ Service tax(attached the SMS here). I knew I was taken for a ride but still thought that's fine let them take it. Now on March 24th 2015 they have deducted Rs 5618/- against RENEWAL MEM FEE INCL ST AND CESS. I noticed this on 29th and informed personal banker on 30th and 31st. I was given assurance that she will get back to me but it never happened. On 2nd April I called phone banking and logged a complaint. The agent too confirmed that he see Rs 2500+ ST against my card, this deduction maybe an error and will be corrected through the complaint no. All good(sic) On 9th April I got the call from back office stating my annual fee is Rs 5000+ ST and deduction is valid. When I mentioned him about the SMS he gave the customer service cards email id and asked me to share the SMS. I shared the same, to my rude shock they have rejected my claim stating the deduction is Rs 5618 /- and not Rs 2500+ ST. I called phone banking to verify the status again, and now agent too see Rs 5000 + ST!!! I have again contested this but I am sceptical now. I am looking forward to close all the accounts with HDFC in the near future.

my name is Sk. Siraj Ali and I'm a 10+ years old customer of HDFC back. I have three account in HDFC bank including my salary account. My enrolled mobile number is [protected] and email id [protected]@gmail.com.

I'm using HDFC debit as well as credit card that was provided by my local HDFC bank and was satisfied with the serviced provided till last month.

Couple of months back I had an issue in my HDFC refurbishment account and it got deactivated, I have visited to my nearest HDFC branch (Salt Lake, Sector 5, Kolkata) and they have done the needful to make it activated.

In that visit they advised me to upgrade my existing Credit Card with Regalia Card (Card No ending with 2210). They told me that it will be a corporate card (as I'm working with Tata Consultancy Services) and I do not have to pay any charges i.e. lifetime free card.

Last month (October'15) post my bill pay I was surprised to see a Debit of Rs.2, 850.00 as credit card annual fee. Also, I have not received any SMS for the transaction too.

This is really a worst situation and I'm entirely not happy with the transaction. I have also visited the same HDFC branch and asked for the explanation and not satisfied with the answer. I have send mail to customerservices.[protected]@hdfcbank.com and got an auto generated acknowledgement (#[protected] but not got any call from them.

Requesting you to revert back the exact amount to my account ASAP and continue with a healthy business.

New status: They still repeat their words that i opted pricing of Rs 5618 and that's it. There is no reply to my question as to show proof of the same and should i trust their SMS or not ? Or check the call sample with phone banking on April 2nd where agent confirms my payment amount is 2500+ ST. I appreciate HDFC to continue looting its customers.

New update: I now have email confirmation from HDFC that they will revert the charges in next bill. Further my credit card is life time complimentary and there will no annual fee. I thank HDFC for looking into my issue and resolving it.

I am going through the same issue right now. I am HDFC customer from 2006 and using HDFC credit card since around 2007. Till last year I did not have to pay any renewal/yearly fee on my credit card. My card was about to expire in March 2015 and hence I was sent a new card - Regalia. No information was provided to me about the charges attached to it, so I never thought of checking it since the earlier cards didn't have any yearly charges. While checking the credit card account information a couple of days back, I was shocked to see the renewal charges of Rs. 2862 which I was never told of. So, I contacted customer care and was informed that the Regalia card has renewal fee of Rs. 2500 + Taxes if my yearly spending is not Rs. 3 lakhs. This was a shocker for me because I am a normal service going person and cannot spend yearly 3 lakhs on credit card. So, definitely this card is not for me.
So, my only request is to waive off this charges and give me a regular card which is free (as I had earlier). If you can't do that, I will have to deactivate this credit card and stop using it. Please consider that I am associated with HDFC bank since 2006 and have take several personal, auto loans through HDFC and my credit card record is also good.
Please let me know what you can do to fix this.

Thanks for the reviews, I just got a phone call from my HDFC classic banking representative offering a lifetime free regalia credit card. He tried to lure me for an instant yes, but I managed to get some time to reply. When he calls me again for that he would get a big NO.
I don't want a credit card now, and don't want to take a chance putting myself into this trouble.
Samething happened to me. i am using HDFC bank for 5 yrs and a Classic customer for long time with Regalia card. It is offered to me by personal bankar that it is life time free card. got annual fee charged. i feel these HDFC guys are most useless guys.
