HDFC Bank — Photo passbook not issued | |||
Inspite of the GR from the Govt of India, MEA on allowing photo passbooks of private banks which enlists the name of HDFC Bank, as address proof for Passport application, the Bank employees, their customer care operators are totally unaware of this and refuse to issue any for salary accounts. According to RBI /2006-07/139, DBOD.No.Leg.BC.32 /09.07.005/2006-07 Banks are liable to provide photo passbooks to all the savings account holders. I have been personally following up and requesting the officials after which they issued me one as if they were doing me a favour. Yet again photo request was denied. All they had to do was stamp on my photo fixed on the passbook. Was it so difficult? This is the customer service they offer.. Nationalised banks proove to be far better. They should be penalised for harrassing the customers for not following the RBI norms. Was this information helpful? | |||

I faced the same problem today. Even aftr this complain 1 year back by you.

Ministry of External affairs vide its circular http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/pdf/Circular_Add_Proof.pdf dated Feb 19, 2015 has approved of photo passbooks from private banks as valid address proof. It has named HDFC bank as one of the eligible bank. Fine. Now as I went to Dhakuria, Kolkata bank asking for same, even after 1 hour of arguing I could not get one. They gave been just a passbook without any photo attested. I had my PAN, EPIC with me still the branch manager flatly refused saying they don't have permission to attest photo on passbook. What's this? Is this some kind of banana republic that private banks have temerity to oppose the laws of the land and refuse to co-operate with statutory bodies like MEA and harass individuals.

I finally got it done after mailing them several times on '[protected]@hdfcbank.com' and making a hue and cry about it.. Epic answer from the branch manager was, " why didnt you come to me? (with tantrums) You didnt need to publish it or send complaints to hdfc. our staff is new, they dint know" The whole thing probably spoiled her image..

To day I faced the same problem. At one branch: Sector - 57 Gurgoan, Bestech Mall, Central Square Upper Ground Floor, Gurgaon, Haryana 122002
They totally refused to issue passbook stating that it will be done only at home branch of the account. At another branch they issued passbook but branch manager refused to put stamp on the photo.
Request to concern authorities to please take strict action against such people who sitting at such public dealing posts and donot go with the Government specified procedures.

Suggest you to take a print out of the RBI /2006-07/139, DBOD.No.Leg.BC.32 /09.07.005/2006-07 publication to the Branch Manager. Also write to [protected]@hdfcbank.com with the details of the Branch Manager who has refused to help you out.
Facing exactly the same issue with my branch at HDFC Manjalpur, Vadodara. My relationship manager flat out refused that other banks might do it but HDFC does not issue a passbook with stamped photo ID. Unable to understand what is illegal about it? I am a verified customer who has been with the bank for last 6 years and they refuse to stamp a photo!!! What is the issue when other banks are doing it and MEA guidelines clearly state this as a valid document.
