Hyundai Motor India — Hyundai i20 steering column complaint

Hello, I got my hyundai i20 magna car on sept 2010. It has done barely 29, 000kms till date and i had no complaints whatsoever untill september 2015 when the steering got jammed all of a sudden. When shown to the hyundai showroom at kongoan, kalyan, the mechanics said these problems arises on those cars which are less driven and hence the malfunction. Mechanic said the entire steering column needs to be changed and the expense would be around 30, 000 plus taxes. How could a car with no damage/no accident and well maintained give me such a problem is a bit of a shocker...
