Irctc — refund of rail ticket on cancellation of Train

I did not get refund for the e-tickets booked for which the scheduled train was cancelled and had to make alternative arrangements causing lot of inconvenience. i was told that the refund will be paid automaticallyas it happens in case of W/L e-ticket not getting confirmed.
