Pondicherry tourism — Irresponsible police force

I'm basically from Kerala, working now at Chennai. I went to Auroville beach along with my husband last Sunday around 5.00 pm. One among a group of four drunk guys abused me by beating from my back. We called Auroville police station and asked for help. The lady police officer asked us to give a written petition for taking any action. We explained that the culprits may leave by the time and hence requested to sent the patrolling police force to help us. We were new to that place and no one was there to help us in that emergency situation. We waited there for some time and were forced to leave realizing that its not safe to be there anymore and that the police won't take any action. I haven't seen such irresponsible police force, especially when it comes to a women safety issue. Being a tourist place, I can't believe this is the law and order condition in Pondicherry. It is such a huge shame on Pondicherry government and police force.
