[Resolved]  Renault — Duster - Power Steering - Stops Working

Address:Bangalore, Karnataka

Hi, I have Renault Duster 110 PS 2013 model. I am facing issue with the Power Steering which suddenly before coming back on after a few seconds. Te steering becomes real hard as if I am driving a truck. I have taken my car to Trident Renault (Whitefield, Bangalore) at least on 3 earlier occasions however the issue persists. And every time I was told that it has been fixed. Today again I have left it at the Service Center for the problem to be fixed. Now when I called the center they are still saying the same thing that the hose will be changed to fix the issue. The same was done on all previous occasions. I spoke with the Service Manager, even he says we will look into it. I am not sure how long will I have to suffer before it gets fixed. No escalation contacts are mentioned anywhere in the service center and on the Internet as well. Posting on this site in the hope that it will have an impact on the guys responsible and they come clean on the issue and resolve it. Regs, Bhanu

Hello Renault,

I am also having the same problem of steering jam. For 1st 3 months it was very smooth but later on it became so hard to drive it feels like driving non-power steering wheel. I completed 24000kms. Make year 2014.
I showed this issue to service center but got feedback "Duster does not have smooth steering because of SUV".
I am planning to exchange it with honda or scoda just because of steering comfort issue.
Please help me to get it resolved.

My car steering just went dead while driving. I have an hour's commute on the Delhi - Gurgaon expressway every day. Luckily this happened a few minutes after I had crossed the expressway on my home otherwise this could have been fatal. How can a major car maker sell cars with such a defect?? I have lost confidence in this car and would strongly advise anyone from buying it. Worse it seems that other consumers have also faced this problem. Is Renault waiting for someone to die before taking action?

I called Renault Motors emergency assist to ask for help. The call center executive suddenly divined that I had a discharged battery. Only god knows how he figured this out. I did not need his remote advice - I needed someone to come check the car.

I told him that the car got serviced last week - if the battery was discharged, how was this not identified? To this our friend replies - "we don't know, ask the dealer"

Renault Motors - its your car and your dealers. You cannot distance yourself from your dealers when you ask your customers to go to them to get their cars serviced. Cannot believe the crap service. Truly disappointing.
I am also experiencing this problem...the problem is currently getting solved once ignition is switched off and on. Also sometimes while suddenly turned the steering especially during u-turn the power steering get jam for a fraction of seconds then it becomes normal..I need to take it to service station but yet to find time..this is real serious problem and I m using Nissan Nissan Tarana why are they not recalling the issue to fix the issue myhr my vehicle no TN 01 AV 3917 mobile number[protected] dear Nissan r please fix the issue
My Renault Duster got the same problem with steering. When making right turn the steering often got very hard as if driving a full loaded truck without power steering, I went to Renault service with no help, i have done about 17000 KM. kindly help to solve the problem for this is a serious case and its a matter of life and death

Dear Sir,
My Duster 2012 model 85PS has recently developed steering stiffness problem, it has run 75000 kms.
I had taken it to Trident Mysore Road, in Bangalore, I was told that the vehicle has problem with the Steering rack & the same needs to be replaced. It would cost ~Rs40K, I was told. Is there any know issue with duster design ?
Thanks

Dear Customer (Sridhara PD),

We do not want you to feel this way about us. Kindly allow us some time to escalate the matter to the concerned team. We'll get in touch with you with an update.
Likewise, my Duster (2013) has been to the garage twice, went through the diagnostic test OK. I was advised that my battery was faulty and needed replacing and this may solve the problem as power steering run by electrics. Needless to say this has not solved the problem! It is worse first thing in the cold weather and like others when turning right.

HI All,

I also faced the same problem while driving my duster 110 PS 75K KM and I thought it was an isolated problem. So this is a design fault them or parts with bad quality used.

Either ways this should be investigated by the agencies as this is a safety problem.

I don't have confidence to drive my car on road any more forget longer trips.

I have a 63 plate and I've been having this problem for month now. Good to read all other issues. As I just thought it was mine. This seems like it should be a recall. Now that there is documentation of such an issue, I hope that there are no accidents.

this is ridiculous, even i did test drive Renault CVT today, the steering felt really hard, on questioning i was told it is hard to give stability, but i dont buy that point. irrespective, of hydraulic or electronic, there would be minor difference but not like this
HI i am also facing the same problem
duster 110ps 2014
The power steering stop working. And it was heavy like s truck steering. dont know what is the problem. Plzz help me for àny suggestions.
Most customers facing Duster power steering issue. Renault, please look into this. I'm also facing same problem with truck like steering feel and lot of deadspots in steering where the power steering gets disengaged for a brief moment and then comes back in. While I understand that hydraulic power steering will feel hard compared to electric steering, in duster this is very unusually hard. Hydraulic power steering uses oil pump to drive the steering rack and pinion which steers the wheels but it should generate enough pressure that it must feels smooth and uniform the user gets accurate feedback steering. This is not the case with duster. I did a simple test to check if it generates the pressure correctly at all times. Switch on the vehicle and at idle, turn the steering side to side, I start to notice severe shudder in steering. This explains that the power steering pump does not generate sufficient pressure to drive the steering rack so the user need to put the additional effort and feels truck like. If this is true in the new car, I can atleast be convinced that it is characteristic of this car but it was butter smooth in the initial days but now something in steering system is gradually giving in after 15k kms driven.

Mine is a 1.5 years old Renault Duster 110ps and ended up in the same issue last week. Very hard steering - leaking oil. I called up Renault Roadside assistance, they promptly assisted. In the service center when I enquired why would this happen? The response is 'even they are not sure'.. I asked him to at least do whatever needs to be done to make sure it doesn't happen again. Now I see so many complaints on this.

I am driving a 1 year and 4 months old Renault Duster 110ps AWD and have done 29000 KMs and I am facing the same issue since last 3000 KMs. Very hard steering, feels like I am driving a non power steering truck. I called up Renault Service center and got it serviced but had a plain reply that Duster is an SUV and thus a hard steering, In the service center when I told them that its not the case when I drive a new vehicle and even I have taken a drive of Hexa, Fortuner and Endevour and all are smooth to drive. The response is 'we are not sure'.. So do these Renault guys think that other even bigger SUVs are hatchbacks ? I asked them to at least do whatever needs to be done to make sure it gets sorted but nothing done and no help.

Dont know why I am complaining as I think they cant help as they dont know what to do.

I have a big problem with the steering, every time oil leakage problem persists. when I went to the company Nirmal cars Jaipur they said your car is out of warranty. It has a mid-2014 model 85ps. They said to change the complete steering assembly which costs around 50, 000 Rupees. Only 35000 Kilometer runs. I don't know why you people show this an adventure car. if I would take it to the adventure I believe this car will go in the dump yard after coming from adventure drive. I should book an auto rickshaw to come to my home safely without any trouble. I don't want to suggest to my friends and relatives to buy this car. Very bad experience even on good butter roads [protected]@gmail.com
