[Resolved]  Renault Duster — tire inner wear and subsequent humming noise

Address:Kodagu, Karnataka

I own a renault duster for the past one year.A strange humming noise started emanating from the vehicle at10000kms and after contacting the dealer he checked the alignment, balancing and the usual checks and gave back the vehicle stating everything was well.again the problem persisted and even after 4 more visits he pinned down the problem on tyre wear and sent the tyres to mrf showroom where they blamed the company for faulty alignment of the vehicle and refused to replace it.subsequently the company themselves replaced it at 20000 kms.Again the problem persisted and i went to the dealer for 15 more times and all he would do was interchange the tyres, make a wheel alignment and woud send me back stating that the problem was solved.I was a bit surprised by the behavior of the dealer and got the vehicle inspected at a maruthi showroom and to my utter surprise found out that at 10000 kms more than three fourth portion of the inner part of all my four tyres were worn out.I filed a case in the consumer forum and When the company recived the summons they again offered to replace the tyres for which i didnt agree. Now the company is in total denial mode and wrote to me today through rpad that there was no problem whatsoever with the vehicle.ALL DUSTERS THAT I HAVE OBSERVED THEREAFTER ARE FACING THE SAME PROBLEM FOR WHICH THE COMPANY HAS NO SOLUTION EXCEPT FOR DENIAL, TYRE INTERCHANGING AND ALIGNMENT.ALL DUSTER OWNERS BEWARE.

Dear Customer,

Thanks and Regards,
Renault India
We are facing a similar issue with our vehicle too in Jaipur. The humming noise has been there since 20, 000 kms. Same story here also, MRF blaming Renault for not doing proper wheel alignment and Renault saying that the tyres are defective. Have also contacted Renault customer care from whom we got a reply only after two follow-up e-mails to get the vehicle checked. Got that done also and after pressing upon it really hard they agreed to replace the tires on cost sharing basis.

All I can do is wait till the new tyres are installed and see how they are wearing out.

I have never got an alignment report from Renault in their 10, 000 km or 20, 000 km service that our vehicle has been through. Neither did the give us an alignment report when we got the vehicle checked this time after they had asked for an inspection of the vehicle related to tyre noise issue. To my surprise, the service advisors never recommend wheel alignment nor do they doi it on their own. We have never been charged for it and hence I doubt whether it was ever done.

How can a manufacturer not recommend wheel alignment till 20, 000 km of road use?

There is something fishy going on as neither MRF nor Renault accept the issue o[censored]neven tyre wear which is leading to this humming noise. Of late we have made it a point to interact with other Duster owners we come across and almost all cars have this issue o[censored]neven wear of the tyres.

Attaching pictures of tyres at 25, 000 km. Sequence is:

I have already sent a notice to the company which has all the contact details. My phone number is [protected] and my email is [protected]@gmail.com.Still nobody from the company is in touch.
I recently got my duster serviced after completing 10000 kms. Even I have notice the similar problem with my duster, the Inner side of the tyre is worn out to a large extent. Even though I have been charged for the wheel alignment the service center is not ready to share the alignment report.
I too have the same complaint after my duster completed 10000 km..I went to the showroom with the same and they said they did alignment checking and rotation done..still I am having the same complaint even after 3 thorough checking from the showroom service centre..my mrf tyres has worn out their inner edges..
