I went to specsmakers in Adyar as I had lost my specs. When I went in there were two persons one looked like a salesman and the other looked like a doctor with Bauch and Lamb white coat. They specifially told me that while the testing is free, the frame and the lense have to be bought from them. I am not sure if this is legal. The person checked my right eye (as I do not have sight in my right eye) with the computer and did check with the old method of putting frame and glass one by one and ascertained that I have only a reading power of 1.5 in my left eye. Then they showed me several frames etc. and I selected one frame. While they showed me several version of polycarbonate and plastics glasses I told them that I need to wear the glass for my computer and also for my riding and that I want my glass to be photochromatic so that when I go outside that it turns in to cooling glass as in Chennai it is almost 9 months summer. When I took delivery of the glass, to my dismay I found that they had given me a reading glass with photochormatic (which I donot understand as normally either you read in your office or home, wherein you do not need a photochromatic glass) and you need it only when you go out in a hot sun, when I checked up with them, they say that the prescription wherein I had also signed says only reading glass!!! We normally tell our problem and expect the professionals to understand, here it seems "Cheating is the policy". Please do not get cheated by these people!!! beware !!! Please do not visit this shop. My personal advise
I did a purchase for 18, 000 thousand
They have made an offer for free lenses, which are worst in quality and the power varies, if you tell them they don't bother.

I just wanted to get one point straight here, the QUALITY OF PRODUCTS supplied by Specsmakers is EXTREMELY LOW. They have cheated me twice now, and I believe this shold reach the public. I bought a set of contact lens from Specsmakers Adyar a few months ago, and after using it for 3-4 days, the lens tore apart inside my eyes while I was wearing it!! It literally tore apart!! And they went into the inner part of my eye lids and it was such a pain removing the parts. When I made a complaint to them, they were so chilled about it and tried to pass it off as my mishandling of the lens. I empathized with their views and bought another set of lens thinking that there may be a chance of the fault being from my end as well. But alas, the new set of lens was such an uncomfortable pair and they terribly itched and i stopped using it after 2 days. I know that I have been late to put this on the net, but better late than never. Guys, please be aware of the non-ethical approach with which they dealt with me, and the low quality products which were supplied to me. This brand is not worth your money.
Specsmakers buy 'quality rejected' frames and lenses from around the world and sell them in India at discounted prices. Please don't become a victim and avoid buying lenses from Specsmakers.
