Tata Motors — Life threatening accident due to inferior quality of parts on tata safari

I, vikram dhingra, am owner of a tata safari 2. 2 vtt, 4 x 2 ex, 2010 model (Details mentioned below) . I had a life threating instance which is a clearly a result of serious quality issues of parts used in your product - tata safari.

On 12th july 2015, i was driving towards my home at janak puri, new delhi from saket in my tata safari with my 2 year old son at the rear seat. While i was on ring road, new delhi, at a point near moti bagh crossing, at about 6:00 pm, the tata safari suddenly nose dived towards the left side (Towards road divider) . As a reflex action i turned the steering towards right in order to avoid hitting the road divider; the vehicle swayed wildly from one side to other and within seconds it was grounded (Refer attached pics) . After the vehicle stopped in few meters, i came out immediately and realised that the nut connecting the tyre and tie rod was broken which had resulted into this terrible incident; since the front right side of the safari had hit the ground and had got dragged for about 2 - 3 meters, the massive weight of the suv had completely ripped off the tyre into peices.

As the vehicles was completed halted and could not move, i has to use thetata motors emergency breakdown service to tow the vehicle to tata service station - auto vikas, moti nagar, new delhi.

The safari has been grounded at the service station since then and is under inspection for repair. While the service advisor and the service team at auto vikas have been forthcoming and helpful, the incident has completely shaken my confidence in the quality of parts used by tata in their vehicles. The service team has inspected the vehicle and informed me that the tie rod, upper arm, lower arm and the knuckles need replacement.

I and my family nearly escaped death; the incidence has completely shocked me. I had great respect for the brand tata and took pride in owing in the suv, which has been completely destroyed by this incident. The awful quality of such critical parts had resulted in vehicle breakdown and made me and my family, nearly loose our lives. I am fortunate that i was driving extremely slow and was therefore able to control the vehicle in such a disastrous situation.

I have no hesitation in stating that despite numerous posts on various websites and forums such as team - bhp regarding the issues and breakdowns on tata vehicles, it seems that the quality team has missed to ensure some of the very basic essentials / must haves in some of the most critical parts otherwise incidence such as these would not occur.

I have owned vehicles from brands such as maruti suzuki, ford in past and also currently own cars from vw and gm stable. Incidences, as mentioned above are unheard of in such other brands.

After going though such harrowing experience myself, i now understand and realise why numerous people still have negative views on quality of tata motors vehicles.

I would urge and ask that this instance is taken seriously by the tata motors quality / customer care team and that they inspect, analyse and ensure quality of cricital parts such as tie rods, knuckles etc in all their vehicles including the vehicle i own. Poor quality of such critical items not only create performance issues but also create life threating situations, as above, for customers of tata motors vehicles.

I would also ask that the tata motors team takes responsiblilty of this life threating incident which i had to undergo and which resulting from the inferior quality of the parts used in their vehicles.

While nothing can be done to alleviate the trauma and mental stess i have undergone, i ask that tata motors team bears the full cost of repairs of my damaged vehicle and confirm that the same has been fully inspected and that no further instances shall happen due to inferior quality parts in the vehicle.

I have been a loyal tata customer for years now, this incidence has shaken and traumatised me.

I believe that tata team will handle the matter with utmost importance, care, urgency and criticality to reinstate my faith in the decades old brand and its products and that it will not treat me as just another disgruntled customer who looses hope and confidence and is left with no options but to fight for its consumer rights.
