[Resolved]  Thoms Bakery — Indecent behaviour by your cashier to a polite query

Address:Bangalore, Karnataka

The bakery is excellent, so is the selection of goods in the store, though the boorish, bespectacled cashier is a clear dampener for the place. The cashier is rude and indifferent to customer queries. He has a serious issue with his temper and is highly irritable which needs to be addressed by the management, as otherwise, regular customers (since 1999) like me will abandon their shopping cards -- as I did today -- January 9, 2015 at 9.05 pm. As I had only three items to buy, I asked the cashier if I could directly pay the bill at his desk instead of going through another person to generate the bill. He simply refused to answer and kept staring down pretending to be busy. I repeated my question very, very politely for the second time. And, all he did was keep staring down at his desk with a surly look on his face. It was clear that he was anger had nothing to do with me. I was embarrassed by this bad attitude of your cashier in public, and enquired smilingly and gently as to why he kept looking down without replying when he had been asked a question twice. He said rudely in a loud voice that I was getting angry with him, and I told him that I wasn't since I have been smiling and enquiring with him very politely. I also reminded him that it was he who was the one who did not respond to a question and continued to behave unfairly when his behaviour was pointed out. He responded by shouting at me that bills would be generated only at the adjoining table and pointed rudely in that direction. I condemn the bad conduct of your cashier with me and request strong action against him. As you can understand, it is easy to discipline such a person then and there, but your customers have better upbringing and culture than your employees think. Moreover, if I shouted back at your cashier, that would disturb your business. Hence, I did not respond to your cashier's unwarranted and provocative conduct, but gave up the idea of shopping at Thom's then and there. Kindly remember that customers work under more stressful conditions than your cashier and decent behaviour with them is important. Under no circumstances, is indecent/intemperate behaviour from staff of any company warranted unless the customer actually disrupts your business or attempts to physically harm you. All your cashier achieved through his rash behaviour was to lose me as a customer forever. Good manners is important, EVEN IF YOU BELIEVE THAT LOSING ONE CUSTOMER IS NOT A LOSS. You have just given me a better place to shop from in future. Remember that always.
