I had purchased a VW Passat from ETA Star Western Auto, the official Chennai dealer for VolksWagon, in July 2009. From the very first week, we noticed a yellow light flashing on the dashboard (the "check engine" sign). Ever since then, the car has been going for regular visits to the service center to rectify this issue. The car had spend more time at the service center than on the roads! The issue yet remained unidentified or unresolved (they gave us no clear answers).
All this despite the service guarantee provided by the company for 4 years or 1 lac kilometers, whichever was earlier. By the end of the first year (still well within the gaurantee period!!) None of the staff or mechanics wanted to take responsibility, passing me from one desk to another, one phonecall to another. Frustrated, I left my car at Abra Motors Service Center in Chennai, refusing to collect the car till all its issues had been sorted.
Since then I have not received any communication from either the company or the service center or the dealer, despite numerous attempts to follow up my case. I was at the end of my tether! A colossal waste of an average persons time and money! The case we lodged with the consumer forum in Chennai is pending. Its been 3 YEARS!!
Considered to be one of the best luxury cars by VW INDIA, How can the company provide such dismal after sale service? Are they just concerned with taking our hard earned money and nothing after? The "check engine" sign is an indication of mechanical failure, What if my family or me were stranded when out driving in our 'brand new luxury car'? And all because VW India couldn't be bothered with thoroughly checking their cars before delivery to a new customer?
I'm still awaiting any sort of redressal or response at all from the company!
