This software meant to test all drives, you may use it to test other drives. But make sure you use it on Windows as it will not support the MAC OS.

For maintenance keep the hard drive in a safe place.

It should not fall down.

It should not be pressed with heavy weight.

Clean the stuff which you are not using or you don't need.

To check the bad sectors on HDD, you may run the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics.

Does this data lifeguard diagnostics work with other make hdd's also?

is there any software for making my hdd password protected?

The WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics works with all the drives if you are using Windows.

Due to limitations in Mac OSX, the drive will need to be connected to a PC running Windows in order to run our diagnostics.
