Agarwal Packers & Movers — payment against damage of goods during transshipment. (gc no. cggnjmu067014)

My articles were damaged extensively during transshipment from reasi, jammu to guwahati. The same was recorded in the documents in the presence of apml representatives. Regarding this i have to state the following:

1. The sofa set is extensively damaged near the joint of its leg and the armrest along with its frame has also damaged which will require changing of the full frame of the arm rest and its clothing. An preliminary enquiry from the repairing shop has given an estimate of rs 6000.

2. The bed head post repairing will also require re painting/ varnishing of the head post. Hence the estimated cost of repairing is rs 3000.

3. The repairing of steel trunks are to be carried out thoroughly with changing of steel sheets as per requirement. The cost will also include transportation of the trunks to repair shop to and fro. Hence, estimated value is rs 6000 for 3 trunks.

4. The battery and inverter was not packed initially by apml representatives at reasi (Jammu) and the article list was prepared. While loading of the articles it was pointed out by me and they just wrote the articles at the end of the list and did not prepare the list afresh. I also ignored the matter as i never thought in my remotest dreams that my belongings will get damaged, as i was sure of the quality of services provided by apml. My humble submission is that the cost of the battery is approximately rs 13000, which can be verified from market as per the make of the battery. The battery is not repairable and i have to purchase a new one.

You will appreciate that household belongings have an emotional value attached to them which cannot be measured always in terms of money. I believe that at least the monetary part of my grievances shall be addressed. Though the mental agony that i have faced during unloading of my belongings and the time and effort that i have to engage in getting my things repaired has to be borne by me.

One mr. Niraj gupta, claim head, eastern head quarters, apml contacted me over telephone and email, and told me that i cannot be paid more than rs 5000 as compensation, without specifying any clear reason for that. I have not agreed to his offer as the amount of rs 5000 is not as per the damage and is only an eyewash to close the complaint.

Hope that my grievances will get addressed properly and adequately.
