Airtel — trouble activating prepaid sim card

My prepaid number got deactivated because i didn't use it as i was studying in the us. I would like to get it activated as i've given this number everywhere - bank, aadhar card, pan card; it's been linked to all my accounts and the company says i have no choice but to activate it to postpaid. And pay 500 rupees for 4 months, even if i won't be using it.
Please let me know if there is any other way around this.

Updated by Pratibhagk I also know that this number has not been given to anybody else. I still use this number in my Whatsapp account and it works fine.
