Amri Hospitals — Unethical behaviour

Address:Kolkata, West Bengal

I booked an appointment with a psychiatrist at amri mukundapur through a phone call on 14 july 2016 at 11:39 am to see the doctor on 15 july 2016. i was asked to come over to the hospital between 1pm - 2pm.

I reached the hospital at 1:01pm and inquired about my appointment, but to my surprise, no one knew i had an appointment since i did not have the doctor's name (although they did note down my patient's name and mobile number). after running to multiple desks, i was asked to book an appointment with dr ayanangshu nayak. so 15 mins later i had an appointment. now i was asked to wait for the doctor in the waiting area. all this while, i had a senior citizen psychiatric patient sitting with me who was growing impatient. after 20 mins of waiting, i found out that the doctor was not even in the hospital. this was in-spite of the fact that i asked multiple times about the doctor's availability and everyone asserted that the doctor was available. now the patient was becoming aggressive and i could not convince her to wait but the hospital staff kept on insisting; asking us to wait and that the doctor was "nearby" and that there was some issue with his car that caused the delay. finally at 2:15 pm i decided to leave being unable to handle the patient for any longer. even at that time, the hospital staff kept on insisting that the doctor will be available shortly.

I would like to question the ethics and practices of the scheduling person who took down my details when i called, the hospital staff who lied to my face that the doctor was available and mostly of the doctor who kept on saying that "he was nearby". i have lost all respect for the amri institution as a whole and the doctor in particular who evidently, has no respect for an elderly patient.

The hospital staff did try to offer me tea or coffee to make the wait bearable but they did not empathize with the situation that they were dealing with a psychiatric patient. and yes, i was not offered a refund of the medical consultation fees and the registration fees.

I would consider this complaint to be resolved if the following conditions are met:
1. a written apology from the hospital with steps to ensure this does not happen in the future
2. a written apology from the doctor
3. full refund of the amount that i paid sent to me as i would not waste any more time in going to the hospital
