Chennai Traffic Police — fined for absurd reason

Address:Chennai, Tamil Nadu, 600078
Website:tnpolice.gov.in

This happened near saravana bhavan, alandur traffic signal from mkn road to chennai trichy highway at around 5.05 pm on 30-12-17.

I was riding back after an event at my work when a cop pulled me over for document verification. I had all the necessary documents. My license is from kerala. After checking the documents, he said the vehicle was not in my name (It was in my uncle's name who is a resident of chennai) and was saying mine was an other state license and riding someone else's bike so had to pay fine. I said the license is acceptable on an all india level why he was asking me to pay fine. He said i was to change the vehicle i was riding to my name (Ownership). After explaining to him much about the bike being my uncle's he was not ready to let go, even though i had produced all documents. He said to pay a fine of 800. I refused. He asked to get it from atm. I said i don't have that money and i can't pay. He made me wait a lot and then he said fine of 200. I paid the amount but the officer was not giving me receipt. When i asked for receipt he said he would give it at 800 and then tow away my bike. I had to give in at last to his taunts. I ended up paying 200 for no goddamn mistake of mine. Is it an offence to drive your friends or relations bike?. Damn these cops.
