[Resolved]  Brookefield Hospital, Bangalore — Daylight robbery in name of treatment

Address:Bangalore, Karnataka

This hospital is really like full of daylight dacoits in the name of doctors (especially its director TJ Pradeep Kumar), who will loot you like anything in the name of unnecessary tests, unwarranted medicines and injections. Once you come out of hospital, you feel like you are coming completely robbed, with all your small savings of 6-7 months gone in water in a single day.

Even for small things like leg pain, stomach pain, cough cold or even like nausea, doctor will tell you all possible dreadly things and immediately without giving you time for thinking will force you to tonnes of lab tests, as if you are sick for months. Sometimes he will get you admitted and then you will be given all sorts of injections, glucose water, which no one will bother to explain to you if you ask anyone what they were for. Only answer you get is, doctor has said, and he knows everything. Once you get the bill, you feel like you have crossed your previous annual medical expenditure in a single visit to hospital and that too for trivial things.

I will say only one thing: Stay away from this hospital. Even the doctor sitting in small clinic in your next street is more wise and will give you much better treatment.

The complainant is absolutely right. I have had a similar experience with billing
am not sure if this is the right thing to do...but somehow could not stop from sharing my horrendous experience I had the day before with Brookfield Hospital!! I am not sure how short I can make it...but I do want to give as much details as I can because I want to see if this word spreads and I am certainly going to try and defame them for what they did to me!! Just tried to fleece money for nothing!!

So, my 6 month old son had been unwell for a week...running high temperature and eventually had to admitted in RxDx hospital for recovery. So I had been having a very very stressful time for about a week managing home and hospital visits and having sleepless nights!! He got discharged from RxDx hospital on Wednesday (14th October) morning. All was well as far as RxDx experience was concerned!!

On the same day (14th October) in the evening, I developed some headache and followed by black outs and vomits etc...so my husband suspected it to be a BP or sugar issue...and assuming that's all it could be, he quickly gave me a glass of lemon juice and he drove me to Brookfield hospital since that was the closest from home!! And here it all started!!! The most horrendous experience a hospital could give! So this happened around 8pm on Wednesday. So the staff took me in and checked my sugar and BP and both was fine. They asked my husband to register at the reception and took a deposit of Rs 20000/-!! Never heard of this...and my otherwise alert husband just in that panic mode swiped and tried to get done with the registration process. My husband came back to where I was kept and told/suggested to the doctor to keep me under observation for half an hour or so and see if I get better since there was no sugar or BP issue but DR Pradeep insists on admitting me in the ICU stating he is suspecting a nerve in my brain to have cracked up cos of the stress and pressure!! And he built some story around this saying I am still unconscious and it's risky etc and I will have to be kept in ICU and they will do some CT scan of my head and some blood tests. So they rush me into the ICU and put me on IV (such a horrible job in finding the nerve and pricking me that the nerve line has turned red and it's getting painful by the day, will attach pic for reference). After taking me in they do ECG and god knows what not which wasn't requires at all...and they did everything as per their wish without consulting my husband. At some point in between ( I think when the IV line was being detected) I gained conscience and kept asking for my husband and they would not call him...and i kept telling Dr Pradeep I am feeling better and I want to talk to my husband but he would not call him and would keep telling me that you are not well and you need to relax otherwise we will be forced to give you medication that will help you to sleep !! I was extremely low on energy so couldn't speak up much. And suddenly the next thing I know is they put me into a stretcher and took me out of the ICU from some other exit (not from the door where my husband was sitting) and they put me into an ambulance and drove me to some other hospital. Even at this point when I asked for my husband they lied to me saying he will be coming behind us. I was in the ambulance with some 3-4 men (one was wearing a security guard uniform and rest were some hospital staff I suppose...no lady attendant was there in the van with me) I asked them which hospital they are taking me to they said RxDx. Anyways, Gods grace I reached, CT scan was done and I was brought back to Brookfield hospital and all this happened without my husband having a clue of when I was taken out of the ICU and hospital!!!

Later, I was brought back to ICU room and I again started insisting I am feeling fine please call my husband...then dr Pradeep allowed me to meet my husband and it was then I started telling him I am feeling fine and I want to get back home. Then my husband said but they have been telling me you are still unconscious...and I was like 'No' I have been asking them to call you and they were just not calling you in. So then my husband called the doc and he did not turn up now suddenly and started interacting on the phone. He made his attender to ask me to walk...I walked and showed them and insisted on being discharged to which they again started arguing that we cannot discharge you directly from ICU and I can only be shifted from ICU to ward. And I was like what the hell...I am telling you I am fine and I have a 6month old at home whom I can't leave to which he says we will bring your baby to you here but can't discharge you cos you still are not fine!!! WOW!!! I am standing there and talking to people and they insist I am not in my senses!! I somehow fight it out and ask them to get my clothes...I change ...and now they don't allow me to come out of the ICU saying until the bill is settled I can't step out!! And they make sure they are not clearing the IV line from my hand so that I don't exit from ICU. The damn hospital was empty and they still take 2 hours to do the billing and it was so obvious they were manipulating the bill and after much argument and follow up they finally come back to us with a bill in which they said we owe them another 1700/- approx!! All this went on from 12am to about 2am...And we ask them to give us the reports and the attender says you go to the ICU and collect it!! We fought and made them to get the reports to us and on checking the reports everything was fine except some urine test had some basic problem!!

Certain series of event followed after that too but we paid the extra 2000/- approx and walked out from the hospital because it was too late already!!

Now, somehow we are convinced we have been fleeced of our money. The bills break up is so ridiculously unreasonable. RxDx charges 3100 to 3700/- for a CT scan and these guys have billed us 6500/- for CT scan. Nurse charges, doctors charges, lever test, urine test...I mean, randomly they have done whatever they felt like and have billed us for 22k approx for this 4 -5 hrs of procedure. And nowhere there is a consent given by my husband for carrying out all these tests.

I am keen to know if someone can help me to teach a lesson to this guy Dr Pradeep and also if there is anyway I can fight it out and get some money back, from them. Can I have some suggestions as to how to deal with this place?

I am sorry for making this so long but somehow I am unable to get over it and I feel very stressed with the lost money...my son who was admitted for 3 days in RXDx had a bill of 10k in total and mine for 4 hours ran into 22k 😔. Just doesn't feel right and good.

Please do not ever go that hospital and also please suggest if there is any action I can take against that place and doctor.

I am sure you have a FB a/c. Please share it there. Before doing anything
else, we should first attempt to give them (Brookfield hospital & the
doctor) the kind of publicity they deserve.

Ideally - some people should just burge into the hospital and confront the
Dr & rough him up if needed. But I guess - such illegal steps can only be
taken by people like the owners of this lousy hospital & not law-abiding
civilized people like us.
Its a shame that a hospital like this one is running & we are letting it
run ...

Not recommended, Please don't go

Worst treatment with heavy cost, for fever they charged 6000/- rupees with unnecessary tests, Finally no use with that treatment.
