My wife and I went from Los Angeles to Thailand via Hong Kong end of November 2008. After we stopped at HK about 10 days and supposed to continue our trip to Thailand, the unstable situation of Bangkok Airport was closed due to the riot. Hong Kong Government only sent the passenger flights to pick up the passengers back to HK. We were forced to stay in Hong Kong hotel for four more days at our own expenses and hope we still can continue our trip to Thailand. Finally, we have to shorten our trip and returned to LA a few days earlier . When we asked our travel agency in LA for the refund portion of the package between HK/Bangkok (including round trip flight between HK and Bangkok, hotel in Thailand plus the tour expenses in Thailand), the travel agency told us at the beginning that it was Christmas peak season, both the agency and Cathay Pacific were busy and asked us to wait. Now, it is almost February 2009, no news or response from any parties feedback at all. Please be advised that what can we do now and how much longer we have to wait. I believe that is a time limit for this kind of claim. May be I have no other choice but turn over to my attorney for legal action. Please advise. Thanks.

I have just arrived back form the HK airport taking my daughters to meet the flight back to perth.
My daughters 11 and 13 flew out to Hk on a return Pert to HK ticket. when checking in i was told that 400hkd had to be paid for the accompanying adult to take them thru customs and to the flight. i suggested this had not been the case on the way out( which is indeed the case..they saw themselves thru to the flight)...after several minutes of banter, they then said 'and furthermore you have to pay an adult upgrade for you 11 eleven year old daughter'.
Cathay Pacific accepted my payment for both flights form perth to HK and return.. They made it quite clear that on the retrun if i did not pay the extra 300 or so aussie dollars my daughters would not be allowed to get on the plane to return home...even though the ticket was good enough to fly them out to HK.
I consider this to be tantamount to extortion..both tickets were bought thru flight centre in perth, who checked with cathay and said there was no child fee to pay..let lone the adult upgrade.
full marks cathay for being willing to strand my daughters in HK unless further undislcosed ( at the outset) payment was made...great service..happy chinese new year!!!
