[Resolved]  Global Steel Holding limited — Non payment of salaries

(This is subsequent to earlier letter sent to Indian Embassy on 29th March 2009 posted earlier by some one)

After receiving the fax from employees of GSHL Libya, a meeting was held in chamber of Honorable Ambassodor of India in Tripoli, on 29th March 09, which was attended by Mr Katiyal (President Operations) and Mr. Warrier (General Manager HR). Management promised in writing vide letter dated 29/30 March 2009, to clear all the dues by May end, And work resumed to normalcy.

Subsequently two salaries were paid in April 09 and No salaries in May 09.

At the end of April 09, still five month salaries were balanced from December08 to April 09.

Since there was no positive sign of payment by management, employees decided not to submit any kind of report ( daily report, TPM reports, Six sigma projects etc) from 12th May 09 as a protest. But still management did not responded positively, so employees had no option to take some unpleasnt steps. Employees representatives submitted letter on 19th May 09 for their future action as below:

Sir,

We all employees of GSHL would like to remind you that during meeting with employees on 29th March 2009 in presence of ambassador of India, management agreed and later issued letter dated 30th March 2009, to clear all dues (Salaries for December, 08 to April, 09, Arrears, pending LTA, Incentives of 2008, balance salaries/other dues of employees transferred to Libya from other units) by end of May 2009. But so far no serious attempt is made to clear these huge dues. We understand, the money received from LISCO was utilized by management for some other purpose instead of clearing employee’s long pending dues. This step of management is giving us a strong feeling that management is not inclined to resolve the issue. Instead of solving the issues, management has verbally declared new unacceptable proposals like:

1- Division of basic salary in 80- basic and 20 variable. ( whereas already 40% of basic was considered as variable pay since beginning which is already not being paid due to recession)
2- Holding salary for 3 months ( It is not acceptable because salaries are not paid to employees after resignation even if they complete 3 months notice period)
3- Non payment of living allowance while employees are on annual authorized leaves.

Please note that all these new proposals we do not recognize unless there is a circular. Now, due to sluggish approach of management all employees are forced to take following steps:

1- All shift persons will stop attending shift duty, and join duty in general shift only.(i.e. 7.30 Hrs to 17 Hrs.) and observe weekly off day on Fridays from date 23rd May, 2009

2- Further, if management does not clear all dues before 31st May, 2009, all employees shall stop working in plant from 1st June 2009 and will remain in camp.

You will agree with us that we have shown enough patience and did not react even in most provocative conditions made by management. But now since management is not adhering to its own written commitment, we are left with no option but to take these unpleasant steps.

We once again request you to take appropriate action immediately to clear all our dues before 31st May 2009 before we take above steps. We shall not be responsible for any untoward consequences.

Since management did not take any corrective action, employees resorted to G shift duty from 23 rd May 09 to 31st May 09 and susequently stopped going to plant. When no employee reported on duty, management requested Indian Embassy to intervene. During the discussion with Mr Rajesh Agrawal on 1st June09, employees told him about the salary status clearly. Mr Rajesh Agrawal was very much convinced that delay in paymment of salaries is unjusified and particularly after the written commitment, management should have cleared all the dues.

Mr Ashok Agrawal Director Finance visited Libya on 2nd May 09 and during discussion with employees only promised to pay two salaries immediately and two salaries by June 09 end and promised to clear all dues by December 09. Since management have always failed to fullfill committments, employees demanded for clearing all the dues immediately and regularise the payment of salaries.

. The libya contract between GSHL and LISCO is basically profit sharing on productivity improvement basis. There was no investment made by company( except gift of Lime coating and Oxygen Injection system for DRI plant). GSHL earned millions of dollars owing to hard work put up by employees only. By any calculation, salary to be paid to employees may be less than 10 % of earning. Mr Katiyal himself being a salaried employee always shows his concern, but he is not backed up by corporate at all regarding payment of salaries. Mr Pramod Mittal has earned so much money from Libya site itself that he could purchase his personal plane and a house worth 90 million ponds in UK but surprisingly has no money to pay to employees. Now May month is also completed and salary dues has increased to six months. Management is busy in breaking employees moral in stead of arranging funds for payment. Can any body help employees to recover their hard earned salaries from Pramod Mittal?

The person who has written the article is positively the man of management or its agent or direclty management. You don't know they are calling for interview, the are selecting and giving appointment letter even on lower designaion saying that they are very big company. I was working in India as Sr. Manager - F&A ( HOD) on monthly salary of 50000.00. They offered for USD 2800.00around 1.26 lacs. It is not much salary if you are going to place like Nigeria, where your life is unsecured and not safe. You are away from your family. Please also note the following :-

1. They do not provide separate house as inform to everyone in India. You have to live with 03 people sharing common TV, bathroom, toilet. It may be good like you, but not for a gentleman.

2. They allow one day friday to go outside, but where. The place, where they allow have nothing to purchase. Who is going. Nobody. Everybody is used to purchase things throug local drivers on double rates.

3. They are mentioning very good salary, but are they paying ?. They are now even not paying local allowances also.

If a comapny do not have capacity to pay salary, why they are issueing appointment letter. In fact Mr. you don't know anything and just trying to misguide people.

If someody is working in LESCO inUSD500 how it can be compare for others. In India people are wokring in Rs. 80.00 per day. Does it mean everybody should get the same.

It seems that you are a fooling person. Mr. Mittal made crores from these mills. It is unfortunate that such person are still not behind bar, becasue India is also corrupt country like Nigeria. But the day will come he would have to be refund all dues of employees by selling his own property. We all were salaried persons and after incident of GSHL we all came on shock and any how find the job and running the family, but they day will come, when a person will give them right lesson at right time. Compnay has to pay my dues/ service contract termination penalty and other reimbursements. I forget eveything, but they are such a cheat that even not issuing relieving letter for which they have not spent a single paise.

Hi Ex and present employees of GSHL,
I am working in india.Last week i attended the interview and got selected for GSHL-Nigeria .I was selected by Mr.Ashok sinha and whole process was through phone.I was offered a good salary.But after reading the above things i was confused.Is the salary problems still their?????, Kindly any one post me the present situation.

It is better to go in Tihar Jail in India, instead of going to GSHL because at least in jail you will get food for your labour, but in GSHL that is also on paid basis, which you have to incur from you own pocket. They will not pay you your salary.

All who are writing comments are sufferer. Do not even think to go there. Work in India in less salary but do not lose your job, safety, career by joining GSHL.

I fully agree with Indian4indian . Most people working in GSHL are mostly non performers, they are busy counting their pennies than working .They are really not bothered for the company in which they are working for years & they were getting more money than their counterparts in any part of the world but still they were not committed to the work either they want hikes in their salries or they were counting their pennies .even in the office or site they are busy aaj tak itne dollars ho gaye .not inerested in work . either they dont have the knowledge of work or they are just lazy . even at the time of evcuation also they really harassed their CEO to the core, .hats off to him who managed these type of hypcrate people.even before evacuation also they were doing all the dramas of hunger stike, non co-operation, nareye bazi, even their ladies were also participating in all this . dont they see their own performences before speaking of the money. areye log to apni mehenat se band plants ko bhi chala lete hain yahan to chalte plant ko non performence pe le aaye . I really feel ashamed that in was there to see all this .
Here Ann Hazare wants to make this country a non-corrupt nation & these type of people giving bad name to our nation .they are not observing the law of the country they are working in. It is a big shame .Even now they are not willing to leave the organisation they want placement in the same company in its different locations . Shame .I really dont know when they will learn to work
It seems that TrueIndianlady is a person of management, just trying to misguide people. A person who do not know that company employing to a person needs to pay salary. If some body is not performing, management has right to issue explanation letter and legal mehtod to through the person out from organization. The terms and condition, appointment is done by company, not by emplyee .Do you want to say that thousands of Indian qalified persons, who are working on very reputed postions and getting job through fair interveiw, becomes lazy and fool the moment they reach to Nigeria or Libya and thats why company dont to pay to them.

All GSHL companies are not paying salaries. They are just making fool to Indians and this is only a sad part that they are still involved in doing same act. India is equal fo corrupt like nigeria. This is the reason, management is not behind bar, otherwise such persons should not be leave open to spoil the carrer of employees.

No body has personal enimity with management, but when management is trying to spoil carrer of innocent persons, they deserve for right lesson. Nobody is taking action because every sufferer is a employee, whose life is no salary base. Nobody has time for litigation and money to waste. This is the reason, all are trying to get other jobs and get re-settled. Those are not getting jobs, are staying their with delayed salary of 10 months.

The day will come when a correct person will go through it and will take up the matter with appropriate authority and management will be forced to call each employee and will do all settlement by paing their dues.
Dear Anillion, It seems you are a very negetive person . Finding faults with others is quite easy .I think you all need a self introspection for sure .
Dear Truiindianlady, It is very difficult to be honest and more difficult to stand with honesty and truth. So I can understand there will be many more who can not stand with truth. The persons getting salary in Ispat Industries Limited/ Global Steel Holdiings Limited, for spoiling career are which type of category people. It is better to have a Wadapav shop at roadside instead of earning good moeny for bringing the thousands on road.

I am sufferer and came on road due to GSHL. God was with me so got anothoer job and settled my family, but company had left no stone untouchhed to bring me and my family on road. Mr. P K Mittal had instructed to Mr. Ashok Aggarwal on my letter to clear my dues, but no action. All was preplanned.

Every peerson who is going to Delta Steel, Ajakota or NIOMCO or LISCO, all are doing hard work, but when they don't get money, they stopped work. They are correct. No work, if not getting money.

I am surprized to see that person like you are avaialble in every corner to support all wrong acts. Its not a surprized dear. I faced lot of such people daily.

Yes TrueIndialady, The basic reason of losses are :-

1. No Raw Material to plant.
2. Plant even do not work on 30% capacity.
3. Huge wasteful expenditures.
4. No concrete plan to come out from situation.
5. Due to huge appointments with no work allocation and non-payment of salaries, people going there are not working.
6. Dispute of management with govt. and spending most of time in litigations.
7. For Delta, failure of railwayline project, resulting Iron Ore could not come to plant. Plant is now running mostly with scraps.
8. Go to Delta plant, huge materialis lying but no sales plan for material.
9. Huge bad debts as no concrete plan to recover.

Managemnt should appoint a team of serious persons who can work in concrete manner and can bring the company out from problems. Every person is working as separate office. HR has only responsibility to send the person to Nigeria and Libya. They don't bother, whether person is satisfied, getting money, has safety, KRA are ready and services are result oriented. Finance, is only concern with arranging money for admin payment bills, few old montly allowances and huge fake bills payments. Production is only concern that they will start production, only if raw material is avaialble, otherwise go and sit on chair. Six Sigma is only conerned with training. There is lac of a team which can work as a company. Every department should have conern with profits. All should work like a team. Dear sir, none of person has personal enimity with management, but waythe compnay is working can not come out from problem. Appoint good result oriented persons. Have fix long life appointment with fixed growth and result oriented services.

Indians are most suitable to work in any atmosphere, any condition and any sitution. If Indian are unable to run the factory and huge defaults is in salary, its really shame for country.

Re-gain the trust of employee. Ensure only result oriented services. Monitor daily results, recovery of dues. Funds should be used not only in admin bill payments. The funds should be used to procure raw material and productions.

Thinks why a such big company is running in loss and bad name for defaults.

I have written many hard comments, because passed through a shocked situation, but my best wishes if management will thing positive to bring the company in profit.
So you are excepting yourself that the team you people are comprising is not a not a serious one which can work on concrete plans.Precisely that was my point too that people are not hard working, they are looking for pennies here & there & not interested in work . If you are working for somebody then you should see to it that you should work hard to get the employer some benefits too. I think you are a brianless person and cannot understand what a person has written. You mind work in single track. You can not understand what is written and what is the meaning.

My brainless friend. If a person work for a month and at the end of month he dont get salary, he will not do work. He should not do work. If management want to bring the company from loss to profit. He should pay salaries in time so that one can work with dedication.

Since, you seems to be a management person, you want that a person should go to Nigeria and work without salary. This you all ared doing and spoiling careers of innocient persons.

This is the reason, management became failed to Ispat Industries also and JSW purchased the share. Persons like you who do not have capacity and sits on big positions, turned the company on wrong path by giving wrong suggesatons and by doing wrong acts.

I am free writer & I was present with my family in Nigeria & Libya both .I do understand the problems of people but I saw all these things my self . you guys have to own the responsibility somewhere .Abusing others dont solve problems . Introspection is required .
I was in libya for 7 years, in 2004, it was good offer and they paid regularly, but things detoriated from 2006, , Luckily we were evacuated from libya in march2011 and we fought with management and got all 9 salaries.This credit goes to all employees who gathered in mumbai office especially Mr markandey.
Now we have lta pending.
we will take this amount also

, I would like to inform all of you that in Delta
steel co plc we, 135 Indians are demanding for our pending salaries of 12
Months every day since last one week through peaceful strike as management failed to follow all their earlier promises

Today(07/07/2011) we all o[censored]s felt very humiliated by Mr Nandgaonkar( DGM, security and
General Services ) who covered Indians with police force and threatened to
use force and shoot us .Our life is under threat and we need media or embassy
Intervension and save us.

The situation is worsening day by day.Nowhere in world people are denied salaries for 12 months and again forced to do duties 10-12 hrs in unsafe conditions.
Experienced and skilled people are being recruited from reputed organisations like SAIL, JSW, ESSAR, TATA steel by giving false appointment letter in different different names of the company( GSHL, GINL, Delta Steel etc...) and giving addresses of the company( Lagos, Abuja, Warri, etc...)
As rightly said by one friend, these people dont forget to do work the moment they arrive in Nigeria...please do understand...

Policies are being changed to protect a particular group...

To be frank, some of the top management persons themselves evoked people to go on strike for their own benefit and to do politics against the opposite group in the management.

Mr. Mittal should act immediately by immediate release of salaries or final settlement of all the employees . 99 percent of the employees are ready to quit this poorly managed company. The company is at the verge of a close down..please avoid this situation...

The company has huge potential to grow...but poor & greedy management( groupist & Lobbyists) make it difficult to fulfil the same..

My friend Mr lognathan joined from JSW to delta last month in SMS, is he fine there, My another friend has got offer from delta, from mumbai office he is getting calls to join immediately.are new persons getting salary for atleast 2 months
