India Today Book Club — Not received the gift for past 7 months

Dear Sir / Madam,

I had purchased music CDs from India Today Book Club in July 08. Along with this there was an offer for a pair of Adidas Shoes. The market price of the shoe is Rs 2499 and I had to pay Rs 748 ( Rs 499 for shoes + Rs 249 as handling charges). I had sent the cheque to India Today and they have enchased this cheque on 18th Nov 08. The cheque number is 659820 of Axis Bank. As per the offer the shoes were to be delivered within 60days.



I have been following with India Today since Aug 08 and till date I have not received the shoes. In Feb 09 I was told that the shoes were out of stock so they could not dispatch the same. Instead of Adidas shoes they offered to send Reebok Shoes. I agreed to receive Reebok shoes and I am still waiting for the shoes to be delivered. The call centre person keeps on apologizing and promising to send the shoes in next 8 days time but I do not know when their 8 days will come.



On 11th April the call center person promised to deliver the shoes by 18th April ……on 18th April I called up the call centre and cam to know the shoes were not dispatch due to some audit ( which I feel is some new story they have cooked up) and would be delivered by 25th April. On 25th April I called up the call centre and was told that the shoes were not dispatched and was told that there is some problem in the system so he can not register my complain ( this story is a regular one which I have heard in past so many months ). I spoke to the person at call centre today 2nd June and he says the shoes were not dispatched since they did not have the stocks.

I have already spent lot of money on making phone calls since I am based at Mumbai and their office is in New Delhi.



I am not sure if I will ever get the shoes but I think other customers are also facing this problem with the company. Can you suggest some ways to solve this problem…..do I need to approach the consumer court.

India Today Book Club — Wrong product delivery

I had availed the product through India today book club offer in which they would provide Swatch chrono watch along with Benetton watch for all at a rate of Rs 3100.The payment was made after a great deal of chase by India today executives for payment which was then promptly paid through mobile activated credit card payment. The 100% payment date made was 12th Feb. 09 that too after borrowing the credit card from my collogue as i do not own one. With only a expectation of receiving my watch. Booking id was generated by India today which was given to me after the payment .I received a message on my mobile after few days telling that the payment has failed. Shocked with the message i called customer care only to know that they have delivered Reebok kit as against my watch. Upon complaining I was told to refuse the parcel upon receipt so that when it reaches their end they would send the required one. Fro that day i have sent nearly more than 15 reminders through mail & more than 25 calls to customer care. People from executive level to customer care staff none of them have responded to my request.I feel It is only they send computer generated meassage which carrys no meaning as they are literally not bothered about . Its nearly four month now & my amount of Rs 3100 has been cheated by India today book club. Its only a drama India today book club is conducting with the people which limits only on our trust on reputed brand of india & we make payment. I advice who so ever reads my message & caution them to think twice before making any advance payment to India today club .

India Today Book Club — Non delivery of books

Got promotional email for Rupees 60 LAKH Sweepstakes. I was more interested in the 12 books from different writers alongwith Free airfare and holiday package. Transaction failed in first instance so got whole of Indiatoday from different locations pounded me with calls to complete the transaction. In this confusion 2 orders were placed for which one payment of Rs 2598/- was done thru Credit Card. The packet did come but with 7 AGATHA CHRISTIE CDs which were not at all wanted and ordered for. After lot many phone calls, they said that I should return the CDs and they will send the books in lieu of that. I sent the CDs on 25/03/2009. Now after many calls to them, I could talk to 3 persons who said that till now my DVDs have not been updated in their system. Now sending a packet thru Blazeflash from Delhi within Delhi does not take that much time. Till now I am awaiting the packet with books. lately they have started sending me SMS amd emails that the delivery has been missed, so please call back at 40502424. I have tried calling to them around 20 times today but there is noone attending. I guess they have closed down the office. A prestigious institution like Indiatoday Book Club us responsible for this and its to my utter disgust that they have failed and let down the customer. I appeal to all here with complaints, at least those in Delhi, to collectively file in Consumer forum. It seems its a racket going on there. if they are genuine then I will solicit a immediate reply to this complaint right here. I think we Indians are far behind because of these type of irresponsible acts.

India Today Book Club — ONLINE COMPLAINT

I offered for purchase of swatch watch which had a free Beneton Watch attached to it (Order No OGA[protected], in the month of Dec-08. The same was sent vide Invoice ORA[protected] dated29.12.08. However, the Beneton Watch did not come. On making repeated enquiries the same was sent vide Invoice No GFA[protected] dated 12.01.09. However the piece was defective and as per email transacted and calls to their Customer Support the same was sent back to them for replacement and they received it on 16th Feb-09 vide Waybill No : [protected] of Blue Dart. However, despite repeated emails to [protected]@indiatidaybookclub.com and call to their customer support number at[protected], and lodging of two complaint bearing number 10080 and 90481, the replacement is not received till date for the defective Beneton Watch. Every time on call they say the material was out of stock, just now received and will be reaching you in next ten days - those ten days are yet to get over for me in the last 4.5 months. And they hardly respond to the emails.

I want to lodge a Consumer Case against them. Please take this complaint accordingly.

India Today Book Club — Delay in promised refund for defective product shipped

The timeline of events in my complaint is as follows

11 March 09 - Order placed for Benetton Sunglasses + Wristwatch combo from ITBC (paid with my credit card and evidenced in statement) Rs 1499

1st Week April 09 - Package delivered but defective (see attachment)

6 April 09 - Complaint mail with attached pictures sent

7April09 - Response from ITBC "With reference to your mail we request you that kindly send the parcel back to us we will arrange the refund against the same". I confirmed on phone that courier charges willl also be reimbursed (Rs239). Just a thought here, when a perfectly reputable courier company only charged me Rs. 239 for returning the package to ITBC, why should ITBC charge 499 for delivering the same package???

15April09 - Confirmation from courier company that package has been successfully delivered at ITBC Delhi office

15April09 - Mail from ITBC "With reference to your mail, we would like to have a scan copy of your credit card statement, so that we can check the details and help you in the same."

15April09 - Card statement sent for 1st time to ITBC ("PFA my credit card statement (ref page 2 of statement, transaction dtd 11th Mar 09")

23April09 - Mail sent in frustration to ITBC (after sending the statement three timws in one week)

"Dear Ms. xxx, Mr. xxx.. and all others who have 'helpfully' reminded me to send my card statement...! As you can see from the mail below... i have ALREADY SENT THE STATEMENT TWICE. PLEASE CHECK FILE NAMED 09_03.PDF (attached again in this mail). I am sorry to say this, but my so called 'valuable' association with India today is very close to ending. I hate to say this but this is absolutely the last time I am mailing my statement to you. I will not hesitate in raising this matter with your seniors in Customer Service and failing that in approaching the consumer court."

24April09 - Response from ITBC "With reference to your mail we would like to inform you that there is no any deduction shown from our side in your attached credit card statement, if amount deduct from our side it shown the name of "INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB or LIVING MEDIA". So kindly confirm to your Bank about your transaction details."

24April09 - My response to ITBC

"Dear xxx. Guess you havnt noticed that there is a page '2' in the statement and you can clearly see a transaction dated 11th March 09 for INR 1498 favouring Living media India Ltd. If you are still unable to see page two... here's some advice... it is the page after Page 1. Are you guys playing games? If yes, I am not enjoying them!"

28April09 - Response from ITBC - "In this regard we would like to inform you that we have forwarded your complaint to our concerned department. Kindly wait for some more time and you will receive your refund very soon."

18May09 - in response to a query from me on the refund status - "With reference to your mail we request you that kindly provide us the scan copy of your credit card statement so that we can check the details and inform you the same."

SEND THE STATEMENT AGAIN !!! WHAT HAD I SENT THREE TIMES IN APRIL?????

18May09 - my response to ITBC

"Dear Ms. xxx. Would request you to ‘take some time out’, ‘think’ and then reply to mails (that too after a week of my sending a reminder). I hope you can read the mails below too….. this is not an old case. The statement has already been sent across three times.How is it that you guys manage to find new ways to ‘amaze’ me with your service ‘efficiency’ regularly?"

20May09 - from ITBC - "With reference to your mail we would like to inform you that we have forwarded your mail to our concern department. Kindly wait for 14 working days. We are trying to handover it to you as soon as possible. Very soon we will inform you about the status of your request."

2nd June 09 - after waiting two weeks and not getting any response, i called up and insisted on speaking to the custoemr service manager. He WANTED ME TO SEND THE STATEMENT AGAIN. But assured me he would personally resolve my problem. So I sent the statement one last time - to a different ID marked URGENT and to his attention as he adviced". He promised he would reply the same day with a possible resolution.

6th June 09 - I am finally posting this complaint. 58 DAYS after i was promised a refund. I am still doing the decent thing by NOT NAMING people who have corresponded with me from ITBC. Hope ITBC realises that. However, i have the entire mail trail of the correspondence with me. One thing is for sure - THEY HAVE DEFINITELY LOST A CUSTOMER. I have already advised one friend to NOT PLACE any orders with ITBC.

Hope through tghis website my complaint reaches the right ears in ITBC and i finally get my refund.

When is that despatch going to happen? When is that "very soon" period going to be over? It seems even 6 months is not very soon for them. Disgusting, frustrating, ... I dont think I will ever even buy India Today magazines if this is the type of their professionalism. Who knows whether their magazines at all carry authentic information? May be all these days I was reading rubish there.

I received a call from ITBC int he month of march 09 and offered me the Reebok Fitness kit with free gift of Beneton Watch and sunglasses under the Booking ID No.[protected]. But till today the booked goods have not delivered by the ITBC though I made uncounted request by telephone and email. Every time I received the same reply we enquiry the matter.

Therefore I request to all of you who see this mail Please aware with dealing this club.

India Today Book Club — Received a Short Shipment

I want to complaint about the un-ethical practices and services provided by India Today Book Club.

I received a shipment against Invoice No: ORA[protected] against order no: OGA[protected] on 29/05/09 for which.I had paid Rs. 2, 996/- on 12/05/09.

Pls find attached herewith is my ICICI Credit card statement which shows that Rs. 2, 996/- were charged to me twice on 11/05.0 and 12/05/09.

Out of this I confirm the receipt of material for payment made on 11/05/09 .But for the payment made on 12/05/09, I have received only 1 Nos of Benetton Watch and 1 Nos of Benetton Sunglasses where as I have paid for 2 Nos each .

Also the surprising thing is your invoice ( Copy Attached) mentions 2 Nos each and the Box contained only 1 Nos each. Even the box was not tampered or damaged any way.

When contacted the call center, I am always informed that there is a short shipment from their side and will be despatched in a weeks time .But this is only a story and also I have not received any feedback inspite of several emails to [protected]@indiatodaybookclub.com .

Request for your valuable intervention and support to resolve this issue.
