India Today Book Club Complaints - Delay in promised refund for defective product shipped

The timeline of events in my complaint is as follows

11 March 09 - Order placed for Benetton Sunglasses + Wristwatch combo from ITBC (paid with my credit card and evidenced in statement) Rs 1499

1st Week April 09 - Package delivered but defective (see attachment)

6 April 09 - Complaint mail with attached pictures sent

7April09 - Response from ITBC "With reference to your mail we request you that kindly send the parcel back to us we will arrange the refund against the same". I confirmed on phone that courier charges willl also be reimbursed (Rs239). Just a thought here, when a perfectly reputable courier company only charged me Rs. 239 for returning the package to ITBC, why should ITBC charge 499 for delivering the same package???

15April09 - Confirmation from courier company that package has been successfully delivered at ITBC Delhi office

15April09 - Mail from ITBC "With reference to your mail, we would like to have a scan copy of your credit card statement, so that we can check the details and help you in the same."

15April09 - Card statement sent for 1st time to ITBC ("PFA my credit card statement (ref page 2 of statement, transaction dtd 11th Mar 09")

23April09 - Mail sent in frustration to ITBC (after sending the statement three timws in one week)

"Dear Ms. xxx, Mr. xxx.. and all others who have 'helpfully' reminded me to send my card statement...! As you can see from the mail below... i have ALREADY SENT THE STATEMENT TWICE. PLEASE CHECK FILE NAMED 09_03.PDF (attached again in this mail). I am sorry to say this, but my so called 'valuable' association with India today is very close to ending. I hate to say this but this is absolutely the last time I am mailing my statement to you. I will not hesitate in raising this matter with your seniors in Customer Service and failing that in approaching the consumer court."

24April09 - Response from ITBC "With reference to your mail we would like to inform you that there is no any deduction shown from our side in your attached credit card statement, if amount deduct from our side it shown the name of "INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB or LIVING MEDIA". So kindly confirm to your Bank about your transaction details."

24April09 - My response to ITBC

"Dear xxx. Guess you havnt noticed that there is a page '2' in the statement and you can clearly see a transaction dated 11th March 09 for INR 1498 favouring Living media India Ltd. If you are still unable to see page two... here's some advice... it is the page after Page 1. Are you guys playing games? If yes, I am not enjoying them!"

28April09 - Response from ITBC - "In this regard we would like to inform you that we have forwarded your complaint to our concerned department. Kindly wait for some more time and you will receive your refund very soon."

18May09 - in response to a query from me on the refund status - "With reference to your mail we request you that kindly provide us the scan copy of your credit card statement so that we can check the details and inform you the same."

SEND THE STATEMENT AGAIN !!! WHAT HAD I SENT THREE TIMES IN APRIL?????

18May09 - my response to ITBC

"Dear Ms. xxx. Would request you to ‘take some time out’, ‘think’ and then reply to mails (that too after a week of my sending a reminder). I hope you can read the mails below too….. this is not an old case. The statement has already been sent across three times.How is it that you guys manage to find new ways to ‘amaze’ me with your service ‘efficiency’ regularly?"

20May09 - from ITBC - "With reference to your mail we would like to inform you that we have forwarded your mail to our concern department. Kindly wait for 14 working days. We are trying to handover it to you as soon as possible. Very soon we will inform you about the status of your request."

2nd June 09 - after waiting two weeks and not getting any response, i called up and insisted on speaking to the custoemr service manager. He WANTED ME TO SEND THE STATEMENT AGAIN. But assured me he would personally resolve my problem. So I sent the statement one last time - to a different ID marked URGENT and to his attention as he adviced". He promised he would reply the same day with a possible resolution.

6th June 09 - I am finally posting this complaint. 58 DAYS after i was promised a refund. I am still doing the decent thing by NOT NAMING people who have corresponded with me from ITBC. Hope ITBC realises that. However, i have the entire mail trail of the correspondence with me. One thing is for sure - THEY HAVE DEFINITELY LOST A CUSTOMER. I have already advised one friend to NOT PLACE any orders with ITBC.

Hope through this website my complaint reaches the right ears in ITBC and i finally get my refund.

India Today Book Club — Items not received even after 3 months

Hi,

It seems that there is no Care Taker in India Today Book Club and they have made cheating customer their hobby. I had purchased a paidr of Reebok Shoe with other complimentory items on 24th March 09 and made the payment on the same day. I was promised that items would be delievered to me within 20-25 days time. Its about three months now but till today neither I have received my items nor they had amde any curtesy call informing me the status. I called them up 4-5 times and every time I get only new commitments.

I have also raised this complaint in Ministry of Consumer Affairs, lets see what they do. For the viewers, I a giving link to Public Grievance site, may be usefull to you.

I BUY BENETTON SUNGLASS FROM INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB, BY SHOWING THEM PICTURE OF SUNGLASS, THEY ARE SAYING ONE WATCH FREE WITH ONE SUNGLASS AND THEY ARE TAKING RS 998 FOR SUNGLASS AND 500 FOR HANDLING CHARGES. I RECEIVED THE SUNGLASS NOT THE SAME WHICH THEY OFFERED TO ME, AND THEY MAKE THE INVOICE OF THE ITEM WHICH THEY SHOWN TO ME.THEY ARE SHOWING GREEN BEAUTIFUL SUN GLASS AND SEND ME OLD FASHION BLACK SUNGLASS AND EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE SENDING THE INVOICE OF GREEN GLASS. THIS IS NOT LEGAL. I AM ATTACHING ALL DETAILS AND INVOICE. PLEASE TAKE ACTION AGAINST THEM OR I REPLACE MY SUNGLASS WITH GREEN, WHICH THEY MENTIONED IN THE INVOICE.

India Today Book Club — Order not sent on time and delay in refund.

I have booked the movie vuocher booklet from their site on[protected] and made the payment of Rs, .588/- by crecit card. Till today i.e.[protected] I have not received the same. when i called to them they informed to me that they have couriered the same on 8-5-09 but on 9-6-09 i have been informed bythem that the courier has returned. after this I have told them to refund the money and also sent them the credit card statement scanned copy. but again till today i.e.[protected] neither received the product ordered nor the refund. and now also their toll free number is also not working. they are not sortingthe matter at their end and unnesessary harressing to me by not giving my money back to me since two months has already been passed from the date of order but I am not in a position to use the money and or the amount paid. Since the amount is small but the seeing the image of the company and the time gap they have taken the company should be penalised

I had ordered 3 Benetton Sunglasses on 13th May 2009 and had recieved "Incomplete" parcel with just ONE piece of Sunglasses on 4th June 2009. Since then I am communicating with India Today Book Club customer care department on phone as well as through email but have not yet got a positive response.
Initially I was promised that I will get the remaining two sunglasses in a week's time which I did not recieve, hence, I requested for a refund of the payment o[censored]ndelievered items. I have not yet recieved the refund amount and neither the date when I will recieve it from any customer care executive.

I have complaint the same through email dt.9.04.2009. and through the online complaints. In response to my complaint you have requested me to give time to send the cap to my address, but so far neither cap or any further information is received from you in this matter. it is regretable. With reference to the below mail received from you & my subsequent telecom with your customer care executives I would like to inform you that I have made online 100 % payment for the order booked thru your website on 29.09.2008 using my ICICI Bank Credit Card.

However the consignment sent to me was for cash against delivery. After several requests since the delivery man didn't deliver the consignment without payment we were left with no other option than to refuse the parcel.

As instructed by your customer care executive pl find enclosed the online payment confirmation mail recd from your end on 29.09.2008, with order no : MITBC-WEB-0942786. Also pl find enclosed ICICI Bank Credit Card Statement ( in PDF & Text Format ) for the specific period indicating the debit of the payment to my card account.The PDF version of the statement is password protected from bank for security of customers. I have received a VPP on dated[protected] from INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB. Contain two no. Britannica concise encyclopedia book code is B1503, S2282 each one quantity. I paid the amount Rs 574 /= +30/= to post office.
Your delivered CDs are not working.
As telephonic information and according to your side I am sending both CDs by courier.
Please early as possible rectify this problem by replacing to CDs.

India Today Book Club — Fake sunglasses....poor refunds procedure

Never Ever purchase any item from India Today Book Club. They are thugs and complete thieves! I purchased a Benetton Sunglass from them - which turned out to be a fake.

In addtion when I ask them for a refund, they take ages to revert (and not their stipulated time of 14 'business' days to refund)

They are the biggest thugs on this planet. No matter how attractive the gift looks pricewise, NEVER attempt to buy anything from this company.
