[Resolved] Kmart Store 3680 — Policy on small dogs in store
On 03/26/09 at 11:05 AM (Receipt#[protected] I went to Kmart Store 3680 located at 3760 E. Sunset Road, Las Vegas, NV 89120; telephone number:[protected], where I went shopping for clothing for my children and my husband. When I checked out Kimberly my cashier was very helpful and polite, one of the items did not have a bar code she new exactly who to ask. The associate that added Kimberly was very polite and nice in getting the information quickly and actually brought some other items that she thought I may like for my husband. They both should get some type of recognition for there great customer service.
On the same day at approximately 6:00 PM in which my family accompanied me (my husband, two children and Chiquita my terrier pup) I put Chiquita in the shopping cart where she would not bother anyone, she did not bark or growl at anyone when we were shopping clearance racks outdoors or even when entering the store. Is a matter of fact the customer at the store did not even mind they petted her and spoke of their own pets.
Than the service cashier as I lined up behide two other customers to exchange some pants that did not fit told me that I would need to leave because of Chiquita my terrier. My husband replied that there were no signs saying that dogs are not allowed. The service cashiers first response was that the store sells dog food that is why she could not be in the store. My husband replied once again there are no signs posted that a dog can not be in the store. The service cashiers second response was that it is a health hazard for the dog to be in the store. My husband replied again where is it posted that a dog can not be in your store (Kmart Store 3680-Las Vegas NV) the service cashier than picks up the phone to speak with what she said was a manager; NO manager came out to show me any policy or to talk with me. Instead the service cashier let me into the store to exchange the pants. When we (myself, husband, children and Chiquita--terrier hereby known as "We/Family") arrived at the men’s pant section and began to pull the pants that I need my son of 10 years old to try on because the size was incorrect. We were approached by a bouncer type looking man with tattoos on his arms who announced himself as security he than proceeded to tell me that I needed to get out of Kmart Store 3680 now with Chiquita. That Chiquita was a health hazard because the store sells food. I replied we are no where near the food which was on the opposite side of the store and that I had taken Chiquita to Wal-Mart and they did not kick me out with Chiquita. He proceeded to tell me to get out and looked like he was coming toured me this made me afraid for myself because of my health you could tell just by looking at me that I have a health condition but my husband would have protected me. I also feared for his well being as well as my children ages 9 and 10 years and what emotions trauma it may cause them. Chiquita is part of an effort to keep me healthy and I did not need her traumatized with the rest o[censored]s.
If it is your policy that no dogs can be in your store how do disabled persons with service dogs get to shop my dog has all her shots up to date just like a service dog. I am disabled and have an identification card from the state of Nevada for disabled persons I would use an automatic wheel chair your store does not provide this necessary for me or anyone. I am in the process of obtaining one for myself.
As you can obtain from this information I can not be expected to know all your policies and you can not judge a book from its cover. I think your manager handled this situation inappropriately as she/he did not even have the decency to speak with me themselves. I working in retain and grocery for close to ten years and I would have never treated a customer or client the way your evening staff treated me and my family. As hard as it will be for me I will never step foot in any of your store again.
