Subject: Complaint against S.V.K.M’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) University - School of Distance Learning (SDL), Mumbai, India and Study Center (Alethia Education Services, M-23, 2nd Floor, Old DLF Colony, Sector-14, Gurgaon-122001, Haryana, India) for not taking any action for the raised concerns and for harassing a student.
Summary of the Case:
1. The university is not declaring the PGDMM – Third Semester result and not allowing me to sit in the Fourth Semester examination – December’10. I have already written all the subject papers of the Third Semester (in May’10 – June’10) with university’s and study center’s permission and submitted all the respective subject assignments in hand as a hard copy and emailed the same to both “University” and Study Centre”. The result is pending since May’10-June’10 and my fourth semester examinations are in December’10 for which I have to appear.
Note: Please refer the attached supporting documents as a proof that I have written all the PGDMM – Third Semester papers and submitted each assignment for the same on which Study Centre has provided their acceptance seal. The receipt clearly states “Assignments submitted for all the written papers of five subjects”. Moreover, the university has also accepted that I have written all the papers, but still they are not declaring the results and allowing me to appear in the fourth semester.
2. In addition, I have not received the grace marks in one subject of Second Semester - Consumer Behaviour, as I have cleared all the nine subjects out of ten for the first year. I am eligible for the grace marks as per the University but still they are not offering me the same.
Note: I am following up with the University and Study Centre from more than three months and still they have not resolved my case and not took any actions.

I am Adil Ahmad a student of NMIMS Distance Learning program – PGDMM (GR No. - SDL[protected] ). I would like to request you to take an action against S.V.K.M’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) University - School of Distance Learning (SDL), Mumbai, India as they have not resolved my case for which I have already raised my concerns and issues to “Dr. Vidya Naik - Associate Dean, SDL, S.V.K.M’s NMIMS university” and “Mr. Alok Bansal – Study Center Head”. The university has not taken any action against the University and the Study Centre “Alethia Education Services, M-23, 2nd Floor, Old DLF Colony, Sector-14, Gurgaon-122001, Haryana, India” even after raising my concerns related to my pending Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management (PGDMM) course – Third semester result and pending Grace Marks for one subject of Second Semester.
Please find below my concerns in details which were communicated to the S.V.K.M’s NMIMS university and Study Center through email:
Concerns:
1. I have not received the third semester result till date. I have already appeared in the PGDMM - Third Semester examination and written all the five subjects in the month of May-June,2010 , along with the submission of each subject assignments in hand as a hard copy to the Study Center - Alethia Education Services, M-23, 2nd Floor, Old DLF Colony, Sector-14, Gurgaon-122001, Haryana, India. Also, I have emailed the soft copies of each third semester assignment to NMIMS University and to the Study Center. On raising this concern to Operation Manager and Center Head (Navneet Kaur and Alok Bansal), I have received a reply that my result is not declared by the university as I have still one paper pending (Consumer Behaviour) out of ten subjects of the Diploma Course (DMM). The study centre informed me about my rejection of the PGDMM - Third Semester application in the fourth week of August, 2010 as a verbal communication (after appearing in all the five subjects and submission of each assignments). I have not received any intimation / information from both NMIMS University and Study Center (Alethia Education Services, Gur gaon) for the rejection of my PGDMM - Third Semester application before appearing in the examination. My admission to PGDMM – Third Semester was confirmed by the Study Center (Alethia Education Services, Gurgaon) and I was allowed to sit in the third s emester examination. I have also received the admit card for the Third Semester Examination from Study Center. I have not even received any returned PGDMM – Second Year fees as a returned draft from the NMIMS University and I had no information till the end of August, 2010 that NMIMS University has rejected my PGDMM – Second Year application.
Note: No emails received from NMIMS University for PGDMM - Second Year application rejection in April, 2010 due to email server problem at NMIMS mumbai end. To check whether the NMIMS email server is successfully sending emails to the students email IDs or not, I have requested Anand Patil (NMIMS) to forward the admission rejection email (which was sent in April, 201 0) on my email address again few days back ([protected]@hotmail.com and [protected]@deloitte.com), as there is no email received in April, 2010 from NMIMS University. As a result no emails received till date from NMIMS University, Mumbai on any of the above mentioned email IDs.
2. I was not informed about any eligibility criteria of taking admission in PGDMM - Second Year which states that “one can only be eligible for PGDMM - Second year if he/she clears all the subjects of Diploma course. I have just received a NMIMS brochure at the time of admission to Diploma in M arketing Management (DMM) course and in which there is no such eligibility criteria was mentioned / written. I have not even received any such information from NMIMS University and Study Center at the time of admission to both DMM course and Lateral entry to PGDMM – Second Year. I have received the information of the above mentioned eligibility criteria as an email received on 17th September, 2010 from Study Center - Operation Manager (Navneet Kaur).
3. I have not received grace marks for one pending subject “Consumer Behaviour” of Diploma in Marketing Management (DMM) course as my rest of all the nine subjects are cleared.
a. Marks obtained on first attempt = 45
b. Marks obtained on Re-examination = 49
It would be a great help from your end if you would take a strict action against the S.V.K.M’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) University - School of Distance Learning (SDL), Mumbai, India and Study Center (Education Services, M-23, 2nd Floor, Old DLF Colony, Sector-14, Gurgaon-122001, Haryana, India.

SDL, NMIMS has already communicated to you it’s stand on your admission to the second year (Lateral entry). Refer to all the replies sent to you by SDL.
Please note that since your admission to second year is not valid; the submission of assignments and appearance for the exams of Semester III held in May/June
2010 are null and void.
You will have to appear for and clear the Semester II subject viz. ‘Consumer Behaviour’, without which you will not be eligible for the admission to the second
year of PG Diploma (Lateral Entry).

Thank you for finally accepting that I have appeared and written all the papers of PGDMM – Third Semester. So it’s a sincere request from my end too to declare my third semester result ASAP along with the grace marks in Consumer Behaviour subject of second semester. This will really help me to save my already spent six months and another six months for fourth semester exams which I am supposed to write soon (on total one year). If you are ready to compensate my loss of one year by any means then I’m ready to bear this loss which you are forcing me to do. Kindly do not harass and force a student to not to raise his concerns / issues and expect any solutions, if it’s a mistake from NMIMS University and Study Centers end. It’s a responsibility of the university to correct their mistakes rather than forcing a student to leave the issues and do not expect anything out of them. If student has already appeared in the exam then it’s a sole responsibility of the university to declare his result as he appeared in the exam with universities permission (As per NMIMS university any decision / permission granted to the student by Study Center or University itself is one decision for which I have already produced and provided the proofs, so why NMIMS university is not declaring my result?)
I have reverted with my comments to each of your below mentioned replies:
1- We had already mailed you many a times regarding the status of your admission. NMIMS had initially written to you in the month of April 2010. About this I had already clarified to you…We are not denying that you have not appeared for the exam…But since your admission is not valid, all the further processes are also invalid… (NMIMS University)
(As per the discussion over the phone I have informed you that I have not received any email sent in the month of April’10 from NMIMS University / Study Centre due to server issue at your end. Please refer the below concerns email where I have described this issue in detail. Also, contact Mr. Anand Patil for more clarity as he also tried sending the same email again but it never reached at my end due to the same server issue at your end. The study centre has intimated me for the first time about my rejection of the PGDMM – Second Year admission on 17th September’10. Let me know if you require an email which they have sent me as a intimation. September is too late to inform a student about his application rejection) (Adil Ahmad)
2- The study centre says that when they had called you up for collection of the DD or when they tried to give it to you when you visited them, you had refused to collect the same. (NMIMS University)
(If NMIMS University can trust on Study Centre’s statement that they have informed me over the phone, then I also inform you that Study Centre is lying and making an excuse to escape from their commited mistake. NMIMS University should not rely on verbal communication as there is no proof of the same. They have not made any calls to me or intimated me about the rejection of my application. Kindly ask the study centre to provide any proof of communication happened between us in the month April’10. The study centre is lying about the communication piece as they are at their fault and could not support them with any proof. NMIMS University should consider my statement as I have provided the supporting documents and proofs for my statement already. They have not even informed me about my returned DD, moreover on raising my concern about DD they informed me (in September’10) that they cannot provide me a DD as I have submitted the fees in “CASH” (for which Study Center has provided a receipt which I have already emailed to you) and they will transfer the amount directly to my bank account. Which is yet not been transferred. Ask them why? And also request the Study Center to provide DD details from respective the Bank which as per them they offered me in the moth of April’10). I pity on NMIMS University and it’s a shame for you that you donot have any powers to take any action against the Study Center’s lying act on their commited mistakes. If NMIMS University or Study Center cannot produce any proofs then it’s not right to believe on such statements. Also, Please answer that if I have refused to take the DD ?(which is completely a lie) then why I was allowed to appear in Third Semester – Examinations? (Adil Ahmad)
3- Decision regarding treating all the further processes valid or not is a later on thing. Unless you pass all the subjects of DMM nothing can be considered… (NMIMS University)
(Why it is a later thing to make a decision regarding my PGDMM – Third Semester result and appearing in Forth Semester, if there is no mistake at students end. Please answer? To me it is of highest importance and should be treated on priority rather than pushing it to “later thing”. (Adil Ahmad)

The only way out is to appear for the exam of the subject in which you have failed (Consumer Behaviour) & clear that subj. You did not get the grace marks,
because of the gracing rules.
Decision regarding treating all the further processes valid or not is a later on thing. Unless you pass all the subjects of DMM nothing can be considered.
So my sincere request to you is to appear for Consumer Behaviour in Dec 2010 exam and clear it. We will be able to discuss your case only after that.

If NMIMS university has rejected my PGDMM – Second Year application then why the NMIMS University or Study Centre has not informed me about the same. Also, the submitted PGDMM – Second year fees was not returned till date which is another example that my admission was accepted and an irresponsible behavior towards students career and failure of managing / co-ordinating distance programs at NMIMS University’s and Study centre’s end.
Mr. Alok Bansal, Navneet Kaur, Sukhwant Singh and myself has already talked to you over the phone regarding my case and PGDMM – Third Semester exams written papers and requested you to resolve it ASAP, but as this is a mistake at NMIMS University and Study Center’s end so you are not taking any action against it.
I would request you to take the responsibility of miscommunication and mismanagement of distance courses and resolve my case ASAP.
Also, if you would like to see more proofs should I include all the NMIMS Students on the CC list and ask them to reply you by saying that I have appeared in the PGDMM- Exams. In addition, I will also include all the Newspapers email ID’s, Media Channels to this email list for any further communication so that whatever communication will take place it should be transparent without any unfair action.

I guess the assignments submission receipt is a proof for both “Assignments Submitted” and “Exams Written” for all the five subjects of PGDMM – Third Semester. Also, the receipt is a proof that study centre has accepted my assignments after I appeared in the PGDMM – Third Semester exams. If you read the Assignments submission receipt carefully, it is clearly mentioned that “Assignments submitted for all the written papers of five subjects to Alethia Education Services Pvt. Ltd. Gurgaon, Haryana, India” on which they have put their acceptance seal.
I hope this is sufficient to prove that I have appeared in all the exams of PGDMM – Third Semester and submitted the assignments for each subject to study centre.

It would be a great help from your end if the above stated concerns will be addressed and resolved on urgent basis, as the PGDMM – Fourth Semester is already started and I have not yet received the Third Semester result. I request you to please declare my result of P GDMM – Third Semester as soon as possible as I have already invested allot of time and money while preparing for the examinations and assignments. I hope you will understand that the invested time cannot be turned back. Also allot of hard earned money is paid while taking leaves from the employer / job for the preparation of examinations.
Kindly consider my request of declaring the PGDMM – Third Semester and allow me to pursue forward with PGDMM – Fourth Semest er. This will help me in keeping myself motivated to continue my studies further which will aid to my current and future career prospects.
