[Resolved]  Parcel Service in Yeshwantpur (Bangalore) Station — ir-responsible authorities in the parcel counter

Hi....

I had to shift my bike from Bangalore to Hyderabad and went to the Majestic on 3rd Oct 09, the porters outside the parcel service said that they will charge Rs. 200/- for the packing, but to check with the parcel counter and fill the form before packing. Checked with the authorities and they were co-operative and said due to the recent flood they have more than 10 tons of parcel and will not be able to take any additional booking to Hyderabad at present and to try in Yeswantpur station.

Went to the Yeswantpur station and checked with the authorities; they say first get the bike packed and then come to the counter and the counter closes by 7:30 PM. the packing guy says Rs 300 for the packing asks to take the bike below a tree and gives a bottle and we will have to sit and empty the fuel tank and he will be busing having a chat with his friends, I went ahead and did as i was running late and it was 7:00 Pm by then. He says the packing will not take more than 10 minutes and starts the packing and leaves it half way and continues his chat and starts the packing again by 7:30 PM by then the counter is closed, and he promises that he will get the booking done.

Came for the booking and they say they will be back after 10 min. and then did my booking, I was charged Rs. 300/- and when I move from the counter the Police guy's standing inside take an rough paper and say's this has to be entered and take down the booking ID and the bike number and asks for money (I paid Rs 20/-) and took the bike inside the counter a guy comes and writes down the booking id and the destination code (Part of his duty) and asks for Rs. 200 as loading charges for which i refused. and they start threatening that they will have to load and place the vehicle safely or else the same will be damaged, and at last paid Rs. 50/- (Forced to) as the loading charges.

While leaving the parcel office I see that they had posted a notice in a corner stating that packing is optional for two wheelers. but the authorities refused to book the bike without packing.

Done with my booking and will have to pickup the bike in Kacheguda (Hyderabad) station.

Went by 6:00 PM and they say that the delivery is only till 5:00 PM and the counter is closed and to come back again the next day. (I had tried searching the web and calling the railway enquirer to get the parcel counter number to check the timing before i go and was with no help) even asked the authorities in the station to give the telephone number so that I could call and then go but they refuse to share the number.

Went again by 9:00 AM the next day and they give me the delivery slip and asked to pay Rs 30/- for the holding charges. I pay and he said to give the money to the porter and take the change (I had 100's and din't have change) HE politely takes Rs. 100 and goes of even without returning the balance.

Net result:
Actual cost of transport: 300 + 30
Other expenses:
Packing: 250/-
Bribe to the police for no reason: 20/-
Loading charges to the porter (This is excluding the loading charges mentioned in the actual cost): 50/-
Delivery Charges: 70/-

Note: I had negotiated on the additional charges paid else the same would have been double than I had mentioned hear.

And their are a number of vehicles and other goods transported by the railways on a daily basis. I hope they make it transparent to the public and avoid the corruption involved in this and also have a customer care center for the parcel service and regularize the timings of the service across the country.

Regards.....
