[Resolved] R G Inter College, Meerut — Illegal Demand for Donation
Dear Madam/Sir and All reading this message
As per the Compulsory Education Bill of Govt, Education has been made free for all up to the Class 8 in all Govt and Aided Schools. However, The Principal of Raghunath Girls Inter College, Meerut called a Teacher-Parent Meeting on Aug 18, 2010 and lamented that due to making education free for all up to class 8, the school is facing serious problem of money and school is not able to provide for students very basic facilities including furniture, electricity, printing of question papers, chalk and black boards, maintenance of school and so on. The principal explained and informed all parents present there that if parents will not help the school, all above mentioned facilities will no more be extended to their children. As even the poorest parents can't see their children suffering without electricity and so on, many of the parents agreed to contribute some amount to the school for improving the situation. When it came to the amount to be contrinuted, the Principal asked all the parents to continue to pay the amount equal to regular fee per student!!
Like me, all parents had questions that how it could be justified to pay the same amount as before to continue the existing facility. Means, the benefit of "FREE EDUCATION" has been encroached by the school and parents don't want to go against the school as they are afraid for the future of their children.
In worst case, school could have asked some part of previous fee but not 100% of it, and that too, after 100% free education!!
I am mentioning this problem not because it is a matter of big amount in terms of money per head, but it represents how schools/institutions get inappropriate advantage due to submissive approach of masses. (This would result in 3000 students X Rs 500 each student = Rs 30 Lakhs)
Some one has to stop this corruption, we are afraid for the future of our children and can't say anything to School, our disagreement we have already shown and have smell what would happen if we don't fulfill the demand of school.
