[Resolved] seagate sata hard disk — replacement problem in warranty period | |
i have bought a 80 gb hard disk of this company from nehru place( name of the shop is Computer empire) in march 2006 and they told me that it has a warranty period of 4.5 years, recently it stop working properly and i contacted at the service centre of seagate ( which is in ashoka building nehru place) and they told me that it will take around 4-5 days roughly. Along with it they gave me an acknowledgment of receiving the hard disc from me and i also get a sms about the same which has a call id.After 4 days they called me up to say that there is some problem about generating some number from the hart disc and it will take some more days. Finally, after trying thier contact number a lot they picked up the phone and said that my call id has been changed but i can now collect the new hard drive which i later on found defective. My address on the new acknowledgment that i receive has also been changed by them along with the call id. Now they are saying to go through all the replacement procedure again which is very cumbersome and there is no surity that this time it wont happen, as told to me. I have been facing lots of trouble due to their indiffrent and rude attitude and deeply hurted by the kind of pranks they are playing on me. I had purchased 500 GB Sata HDD with 5 year warranty in Sept 2007. The HDD worked perfectly till Feb 2010. Then suddenly it crashed and I lost all my data. Had the HDD replaced from the service center and exactly after 6 months of replacement the replaced HDD has again crashed with all the data in it. Does the company replaces the HDD with some one else's not working ones just to complete the 5 year warranty period. So that the users are forced to buy new HDD. If that's the case then I suggest everyone not to buy from them.

I have a 500 GB Seagate hdd ( Barracuda 7200. 12, Model : ST3500418AS )
I previously had the same type of hdd but one day it suddenly became very slow even if it was just one year old. It used to copy files at 30 mbps but it got down to 4 mbps. And after a few days it wasn't even getting detected. So on warranty i got this new hdd 3 months back.
Now am facing the same problem again, i.e., it again dropped copying speed from 30 mbps to 4mbps and it even runs slow. I am afraid that even this hdd will stop working like the previous one did and am worried about the data in it. I got lots of DVDs to write my data into it but since the writing speed is low it's really testing my nerve. I have another hdd attached to my PC and it always works well (runs fast and copies at 30mbps like always) and my system config is pretty good. So i guess i can say it's definitely the problem of hdd.
What is the solution to this !?
I lost 400 gb of data with the old hdd. Now do you suggest me to keep writing into DVDs at that low speed or is there anything else that i can try !?

i have 80 GB hard drive of seagate, and it is not working of 40 GB, so pls seggest that mai kya karun.
Seagate Hard Disk(160 GB) — Bad sectors
My HDD does not get formatted due to some bad sectors in it, that's what i think.its getting detected in Bios but does not process even on formatting using my xp cd.

I am from surat, Gujarat I had purchased 500 GB SATA HDD no. 6VMFGPZP ON 28th Jan 2011. I Installed it in to my pc. The same day when I boot my PC, the BIOS screen shows S.M.A.R.T. status BAD. It fails to detect and my pc given me blue screen. I checked HDD with seatools, that software from seagate also confirm S.M.A.R.T. error and generate unique error code so, I reported this to Singhania Computers (where I purchased HDD) Nanpura, Surat. They told me to contact authorize Seagate services center Accel Frontline Services Limited, Adajan, Surat. I have given my HDD to them on 2nd Feb 2011; I had been waiting for 12 days but no reply from their side. Then I called Accel more than 10 times, every time they giving me different reasons to delay in replacement, even they never call me from their side for single time. Finally I called them on 17th Feb 2011 and they told me that my NEW (not same one) HDD came from service center of Chennai and it is ready. I collected HDD from them; it looks NEW because it has new wrapper on it. But when I reached to home and attached it to my pc the same problem I got again and I realized that they given me the same defected HDD, with new green border sticker on it saying "Certified Repaired HDD"
I wonder and realized that I have been cheated by this services center and seagate. Somehow they remove S.M.A.R.T. Error(I think they bypass or override monitoring system by some trick) but actual problem is not solved, after installing windows it fails within 2 hours, it stops to detect completely. So I realized that these people tried to make me fool the bypass or override error reporting system but they didn't solve actual defect of HDD, they return HDD as it is with replaced new sticker. This is a case of OPEN CHEATING.
Now, it’s more than 20 days my pc is not working, i have to use cyber cafe for my personal work. It’s really feels very bad when you looted like this, especially when you buy things from major brands.
