Standard Chartered Credit Card — Mental Pressure ,Threats and continual harrasment over phone

I was holding a standard chartered credit card approx 10 years back at Bangalore. There were some wrong debits like late fees payment and interest on interest charges which i in person went to the bank and spoken to the branch incharge of koramangala branch at that point of time. I do remember that i have made all the payment pertaining to the purchase which i made and cancelled the card by cutting the same into 4 pieces and handed over the the branch personal.

I was holding the card details and statement upto next 4 to 5 years where in no one from the bank has approached to me, due to which i have thrown away all the documents and currently i don't have any information other than the card no. and limit of the card.

Suddendly i have received a call from one of the so called collection agent at time and at times stating himself as high court lawyer etc stating that i owe an amount of Rs.2.32lacs to the bank and refuses to give any kind of his where about of him and the detail brekaup of the outstandings etc.

He has been calling my wife, collegues, friends and relatives and using abuse language to all of them by threatening them by various means. This kind of illtreatment is not accepted by so called renowed bank and if this continue reputation of the bank would definetly go down and no one would like to get engaged with your Bank.

I have launched a police compliant in this regard and would be taking up this case very seriously as the Bank directly or indirectly is responsibile for this kind of behaviour with its cutomers and defaming my reputation in the public in front of my collegues family & relatives etc.

Dear Raja

I have already posted several comments on issue like this. Generally people perception is that once you want to get away from the card people impulsively react by paying all the dues as of the last statement and immediately cut the card into four pieces and throw them or hand over them to the bank either physically or by mail. Now you will have to carefully understand that credit card accounting is a dynamic account and the balance changes every day. if you pay the bill as of the last card statement it definitely means that you are still liable to pay the bank for the rest of the day that is from the last statement date to the date of making the payment. This could be a very small amount but this remains on your account as payable to the bank. Then the next thing is when you don't pay they will still charge you interest on the same and also add a late payment fee, and as this goes on increasing you will reach a point that the outstanding is over your credit limit and at this point they start adding overlimt charges also few banks add renewal fees on this as well. So don't be surprised that Rs 4000 has become 3 lakhs in ten years mathematically it is possible. However banks are liberal and understand that this can happen, you can negotiate with them or take services from any company like our who is into debt management and counseling. Our contact details
