[Resolved]  TATA Indicom Plug 2 Surf — poor internet connection / poor customer care

Hi all,

I would like describe my bitter experiences with Tata indicom internect service - "plug 2 surf"

One sales person came to my office and told that the USB mode of connecting internet, they call it "plug 2 surf", is really fast and since i had interest in wireless internet due to mobility, i got inclined to take it. When asked about the speed, he told it is 128 Kbps at that moment, and in 2 - 3 months time, they will upgrade it to 512 kbps. Believing his words, i took the connection. He also told me that the USB device can as well be used for any other internet connection like Reliance wireless...

I bought the USB connector device costing Rs.3000. (But after purchasing, i noticed that it was specifically customized for tata-indicom connection with the software and all..). Once started using the connection, i realized the speed of the connection. It is much less than 20kbps..! My main intention was to access my office mails at home thru outlook's web-client, but believe or not, I was never able to do so, inspite of various "engineers" from tata-indicom coming and making it faster. For a simple google search it will take upto 5 minutes to displaz the results, and sometimes never...! So you can imagine the speed..!

To get someone look at the problem, they had given some customer care number and when called, they would some other department is responsible for it, and one day i made 6 calls to different tata-indicom departments to get a complaint registered for slow speed.. As mentioned earlier, those "engineers" could do anything...

Finally, i thought of discountinuing the connectiion, and it was another nightmare..! They would ask reason (obviously, they should), but they would say "sir, we would look at it and resolve, why u want to close the connection", but nothing will happen... I used to get bills for monthly rentals, and they used to deduct from my account... Last time, again i called them up to discontinue the connection, i got a reference number for the disconnection, and i sent a mail to their customer care and my bank to stop bills and stop payment respectively, quoting the above reference number. But i still receive the bills from them..

Can i approach consumer court against this "Service provider". For me, i had a total loss of around Rs.6000 -- Rs.3000 for the device and nearly Rs.3000 for "bills"..

Tata Indicom - Plug to Surf Internet — Extremely poor services from tata indicom internet

I have been useing the tata indicom plug to surf modem since the past 5-6 months. The reason to switch over to modem was the poor internet connection with tata walky wireless phone that i was useing earlier. So the speed of brouseing with the tata phone(walky) was terrible, hence i puchased plug to surf modem which too was no difference in speed, similarly pathatic.

I tried to bring this to the customer care notice, 2-3 times the engineer checked it at my office but failed to come to a conclusion for the bad speed of internet. Due to the inability to explain the cause of poor speed the engineers prompted me to get my computer checked by a computer engineer and i did so twice. The computer engineer gave me a green signal stating that my pc is perfectly allright, it is a fault with the modem speed.

Finally a rather sencible engineer from tataindicom came to check my system, he also brought along his own laptop. He now was very clear that it is the poor speed of modem which is causing the problem as the performance of the modem was the very same (poor) in his laptop too.

He also concluded that the reseption of signal at my office by the modem is very good, so it was not the issue of poor signal it was nothing other than poor service by tata indicom.

Finally when there was no reply & after confirmation by their own engineer, tataindicom customer care executive told me that since my office falls in a zone where tataindicom does not have a tower, that was the reason for poor speed. The customer service executive also made a statement that it will take nearly 2-4 months to build the tower as the construction to it is in progress. I was stunned to hear this, as my office is in bandra area of mumbai which is suppose to be a very prime commercial hub, infact my office is located near the costly bandra-kurla complex - a prime commercilal center of mumbai. Surprisingly if they do not have the tower for singal in this area, then surely this service is useless.

It has been nearly 5 months since then but to my greatest surprise the tower of tata indicom has not yet come into existance nor any improvement in their survice.

Hats off to tata indicom!!! I hope they realise they have a reputation of tatas which they have brutally damaged.

I totally agree with you..at the time of opening the account these guys are faster than anyone..but when it comes to resolving ur complaints...they'll make you go round and round...the speed's screwed up..the customer care sucks..!!! if these pple are not serious enough abt their customers then they better got to hell...we can opt for some other sevice provider!! i m gonna do my bit to make pple aware of the pathetic service that these guys provide..lets spread the word...

TATA plug to surf — Tata Services Executive

I paid Rs 2500 to an executive of Tata (plug to surf) Services to get the connection. But after that the executive never turned up and now his mobile number is not reachable. I have a photocopy of his identity card.

I am a medical practitioner in Samastipur in Bihar.
I bought a "Plug to Surf" in August-08. Very slow, but beggars cannot be choosers.No other company offered portabilty in this area.
No recharge vouchers are available with the dealers.
I have been in touch with customer care for my recharges, but they have a steo-typed format, which they fill up.and very well fail to understand the individual problems.
Time has elapsed in this correspondance, and I am told to buy a new "ON-LINE"Sim.
Reluctantly I agreed, but the Samastipur dealer says tah "ON-LINE" SIMS will be available after 2-3 months. That's a laugh.!!! The high Name of the TATA Customer care is quite sad.

Now I am left with a useless PLUG2SURF MODEM<worth RS 2500. as a Sounir.

TATA Indicom is cheating the public. I wanted to buy only for three months and then unsubscribe, as I was leaving India. But they are still sending bills despite frequent reminders for unsubscribing. It is a shame that such a reputed company is openly cheating public.
i did my MBA this year, n we come to know that tata always believe in honesty n integrity. but this plug2 surf is completely cheating us
i wasted my part of first salary in purchasing such a harassing device

Plug2Surf — Bad customer care

Dear sir,

I have recently purchased a plug2surf connection. I have been told that first two months is free and after than 799 per month unlimited usage. That time itself i saw the plan name was unlimited 1099. I asked dealer and he told that plan have reduced cost and it is having 799 rent only. I enquired customer care and got same confirmation.
But when bill came it 1099 as rent. I dont want to pay such bill.
I am planning to drop the connection and go for other serivce provider.
Why your dealer and customer care is cheating people?
I brought this from a dealer in Balarapuram, Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala
If you are not interested in continuing this connection you must send a Registered Letter Acknowledgement Duestating the details of your connection details of bills etc and reason for disconnection and request them to settle the accounts in 10 days. You must preserve the postal receipt, copy of the letter, acknowledgement received, bills both paid and unpaid.Wait and see what the company say.

I perfectly agree to the above complaint, as it completely matches with my experience with plug to surf. Though i am in the same area o[censored]sing internet, it mostly goes away from the green signal..

i hardly get signals (speed is out of question) to access the internet. When i made complaint to the nearest dealer (Tata indicom) Thorapakkam (behind fortune) Chennai 96. Tamilnadu, they simply reply that this is a common problem, and boldly ask me to wait until more towers are launched.

This really is a shameful answer from the dealers representing such a big company...pls help us to get rid as we did invest around Rs.4000 to get the plug to surf modem...

TATA Indicom — useless services surf-2

I had purchased tata indicom surf 2 usb two years back.initially it was post paid plan and unlimited free offer proved bogus as they charged for usage.after one month modem stopped functioning (error 721) and answer of tata was vista os in my laptop.after few days it started again without doing anything.amazing.now i used prepaid ([protected]) as post paid bill crossed limits and was improportionate with usage.now problem is different.online recharge is trap of tata.i have to run to pimpri outlet for not recharging online and again charging manually of online recharge is gift voucher to me.tata brought concept of core plan.when you recharge it ,balance will go to core balance, a unknown zone that can be seen on monitor in company but cant be used in data plan.then i got lesson with charge that if balance goes in core it cant be used. then came data plan of 512 mb. It is miracle in science.nobody knows what balance is left.one fine day when you cross 512 mb tata start the services but uses regular balance and finally becomes negative.when you start the connection again it will show error 721 your services discontinued.again you have to go for outlet and wait for 4-5 hours for restoration.when you come it will take 1 hr,3 hr,1 day,3 day and so on for restoration service.there is no limit to tata for starting service or take care of complaint.now finally my connection is closed for last one month.i have changed sim twice,my balance is rs 180 as per a/c report,modem is ok, i am also fine but counter staff says they dont know what is reason of stopped service.if you are using interactive voice response(IVR) then you can spend rs 100 on your phone bill but you will not get executive (human being) on line and if is there he/she will tell mobile where you will get information o[censored]LTA PLAN to make you ULTA.if any offer is there to buy tata photon or surf 2 be carefull and keep yourself ready to buy above headache with a lot of money and zero utility in your business.in short above net services are one of the hopeless and useless in our solar system may be in galaxy and finally in universe.jai photon baba pimpriwale.
