[Resolved]  Tata Indigo Dicor — Defective Car

Sub: Complaint against manufacturing defect in TATA Indigo DICOR Car
Ref: Registration number: TN 01 AE 0126, purchased in Sept 2008

Dear Sir/Madam

I had purchased a new TATA Indigo DICOR LS model car in September 2007 from V S T Motors Ltd., 144, Anna Salai, Chennai – 600 002, with registration number: TN 01 AE 0126

By Oct 2007 the pump, injector nozzle had given way and the car started shivering, emanating black smoke from exhaust all over. Car was sent to V S T Service station, 236, Anna Salai, Chennai – 600 006, vide job card no: JC-VSTSER-AN[protected] dated 31.10.2007. (Copy enclosed).

However in the next five months the same problem of engine knocking, excess smoke, vibration continued and the car has to be sent to V S T Service station, Chennai many times.

In Dec’07, VST Service station had called Lucas people and got the pump “adjusted”. However by Mar’08 pump failed again and Mr. Ramesh, General Manager of V S T Service Station was kind enough to take this matter seriously and arranged to import a new pump from London through Lucas and replace the same.

From March 2008 till date the car has been sent to V S T service Station on number of occasions and the matter has also been brought to the notice of Shri Ratan TATA, Chairman of TATA Group, vide our letter dated 09/03/2008. (Copy enclosed)

I received one letter no: PCD/CCC/Indigo dt: 17.04.2008, from Tata Motors Ltd., Mumbai assuring me that “All necessary action would be taken to ensure that the car performs to your satisfaction”. (Copy enclosed).

In spite of assurances given by TATA Motors, Chennai & Mumbai, and the car could not be made perform even like an ordinary Indigo Car, (Forget Indigo DICOR). Process of car coming and going to and from VST continues.

Fed up with a poor quality product, I again wrote a letter dated 17.08 2008 to Shri Ratan Tata, Chairman, TATA Sons Limited, Mumbai (Copy Enclosed) and brought to his notice that subject Indigo DICOR manufactured by TATA Motors and supplied by V S T Motors, Chennai, is particularly suffering from manufacturing defects and in spite of LUCAS PUMP having been “Changed”, the Car was giving problems of jerking, loss of pick up, hard clutch, hard steering etc.

We also sent the copy of the service history sheet as received from V S T Service Station and requested the Chairman to replace the Car, on account of the above manufacturing defects / defective car.

We received letter no: PCBU/CCC/SSR/Indigo dt.26th August 2008 from TATA Motors, Mumbai,
And an e-mail dt 21.08.2008, from TATA Motor Chennai office and a bill for Rs. 523 from V S T Service Station. In spite of good wishes of a “Happy Motoring” from TATA Motors Mumbai the motoring of this particular Indigo car was never “Happy”.

On 28/10/2008 the car was again sent to V S T Service center along with our letter along with all the defects and hardships faced by me in driving the car. All the defects, although having been attended to by V S T, three times between 28.10.2008 till date 09.11.2008 the car is doing up and down between my residence and V S T Motors.

On 06.11.2008 (Saturday night) the car was delivered back to me by V S T Service center after “attending” the defects.

On Sunday Morning 7.11.2008 hardly 3 kms from my residence, the car stopped and it did not start in spite of my best efforts. Mr. Ramesh, G M of V S T Service station one mechanic, who was able to start the car.

09.11.2008 car did not start in the morning and technical persons from V S T came home, and since they were not successful in starting the car, finally it has been taken away, by V S T pick up van to their service station.

Through this letter I would like to clarify on the basis of service history of the car that my car is
Suffering from manufacturing defects of:

1) Lucas Pump
2) Computer board
3) Injector
4) Clutch
5) Engine
6) Accelerator,
7) wheel bearing noise
8) rattling sound
9) Pick up problem etc.

It seems that TATA Motors in a bid to reduce the price of the product have compromised with the quality of the parts.

Through this letter I request you to take up this case and issue a notice under Consumer Protection Act 1986 to TATA Motors, Mumbai, V S T Motors, Chennai, to replace my defective
Indigo DICOR with registration number: TN 01 AE 0126, purchased by me in 1st week of 2007.

Thanking you,

Sir,
I am agree to the above complaint and come to conclussion that tata is good (not best, better) for manufacturing trucks and not for cars. This is opinion is based on my own experience. I purchased tata indica dicor model bearing mh-12-et 8684 in june-08. before completion running 10000 km, from june to sept -08, the car engine ceased 2 times on express highwary. I have lodged compalint in Consumer Court. Dicor model is failed.
