[Resolved]  The Loot — VAT not included in MRP

29th March'09.

This is about 'The Loot' store in Coimbatore. (R.S.Puram branch)

The store had boards outside the shop stating a discount from 25% to 60%. Seeing the boards I walked in.

I bought a shoe, the MRP of which was Rs. 1599 (inclusive of all taxes ).
The shoe carried a tag stating 40% discount. Assuming the shoe would cost Rs. 960, I gave them my debit card. They swiped it for Rs. 1079. On asking they told I would have to pay 12.5% VAT on the discounted price.

Here is their calculation:
MRP (including tax) 1599
After discount 960
VAT 119
Total 960+119=1079.

I am not complaining about paying the tax but I want to know if MRP had tax included, why did the discounted price not have the tax included?

My calculation :
MRP 1599
I paid 1079
discount percentage =[protected]/1599) * 100 = 32.5%

They promised a discount of 40% but they actually gave 32.5% discount. They did not do the transaction as promised so it is clear FRAUD.
In my opinion the company should be charged of fraud of doing this everyday to thousands of customers all across India.

They truly live up to their name 'The LOOT'.

S man I too agree with u. First we must complaint that whether they paying tax or not and next thing is they should not advatise that they are giving 40% off.

The last u said "THE LOOT" is exactly suit for them.
Thx

Even I went through a similar ordeal at their Andheri, Mumbai store. I had a discount voucher for Rs 100, the shirt i purchased was for Rs1199 with 50% discount. So the calculation was done like this..
[protected]gift voucher) = 1099. Then 50% discount was added, and on that amount tax was additional. This is pure cheating. First, i got only Rs 50 on the voucher as discount, secondly additional tax on MRP is illegal. STay away from Loot!
The same happened with me at the thane shop in majiwada near big bazaar. The loot shop had a shoe with a price tag of Rs. 2000 MRP. including taxes with 40% discount on it. So I was ready to pay Rs. 1200 for it . But on the cash counter the person told me that I have to pay tax the second time and the shoe would cost me Rs.100 - Rs150 more. I don't understabd why do you have to pay taxes twice while purchasing the same produce. I tried to expain this to the shopkeeper but he kept arguing with me tell this might be wrong but it is still our company policy. This is fraud and we can make out from this forum that it has been happning from long time. Why doesn't anyone do something to stop this "LOOT".
would like to know what is correct?? if there is a discount offer of 25% on a product say a garment with an MRP of Rs1000 (inclusive of taxes) what shuld be the sale price and tax calculation if any? what amount a customer supposed to pay?
