I think these incidences are common with online shopping sites. They have some batch jobs that run in the background and when they want to hike the prices, these batch jobs modify the internal database so that the product is shown out of stock or can not be delivered to this pin code till the new price reflects in their systems. Everyone would get the same message, it's just that since one customer does not know other we are unaware of such tactics and believe that the product is out of stock. These sites are always live and generally not taken down completely unlike a local shop who can modify his billing machine overnight when the shop is closed so that he can sell the next customer coming next day morning the same item with higher price.
