Mcdonald's India — balance cash fraud

I am a frequent visitor in the mcdonalds outlet in edachira (Hardcast restaurants pvt ltd, cochin infopark kakkanad, shop no.9/418a1, mukkadan grand central, edachira road, ernakulam, kakkanad, cochin, kerala).

Today (16th feb 2020) i had a very bad experience while i visited the above mentioned outlet.

I ordered for veg-meals combo and paid in cash. The bill showed rs.200 and i gave a rs.500 note. Ideally i should get balance change of rs.300. Instead he gave me balance change of rs.200 only. When i asked him about the rs.100 balance, he said that is additional gst charges. I was not convinced by the explanation he gave. After my order came, i again went upto another crew and asked him to explain to me how the gst calculation is done as it is not making sense to me that a rs.200 bill will have additional rs.100 gst charges which is no where mentioned in the bill. This crew member called the person who took my order and asked him why he gave me only rs.200 balance and his reply surprised me. He said 'he forgot to give me balance of rs.100'. I was surprised because i had a conversation with him (When he gave me that rs.200 in the billing counter) regarding the rs.100 balance and his reason was it is gst charges. And when the other crew member questioned him, he said he forgot to give me rs.100 change. How can he forget when it is clearly mentioned in the bill that rs.300 is the balance amount and i also asked him to recheck the balance amount when he gave me only rs.200 balance in the billing counter. He had a convincing reason that it is gst charges. It in no way looked like he had any confusion.

The conclusion i got after that is - he simply lied to me. And when he understood he will be caught, he gave the excuse of forgetting to give me rs.100. He did not look apologetic nor did he apologise.

This was the first time i walked into this mcd and paid in cash. And this is the worst experience ever. Though this is a first time experience for me, there are many who did share similar experience from that same outlet when i shared mine. This has tempted me to register a complain.

I would also like to highlight here one other case which happened in mcdonalds outlet in lulu mall kochi. They have a separate billing area (Take-away) for ice-creams. And only cash is accepted there. As they have very fancy amounts as cost for each ice cream, it will mostly never add up in round off figures (Eg. Rs48, rs, 97...). So if you give rs.50 or rs.100 as cash, they don't give you balance rs.2 or rs.3. They give the excuse that they don't have change. Even if you give change to them for your billing, they still don't give any change to the next customer. I am sure they make a good amount by going like this as this is one of the busiest outlets as it is in lulu mall.

They are exploiting people who are paying in cash in the counter by giving such excuses like additional gst charges, no change, etc. These are clear cut case of fraud and it is not expected from such a reputed company like mcdonald's.

The amounts might be very small but the impact that it creates in the minds of the customers are huge. I would never wish to visit these two outlets again coz of their poor customer relationships. This is a very unexpected behaviour. It will surely hamper mc donald's reputation in the long run.
