Spice Jet Airlines — defective seat and horrible experience

Dear Sir/Ma'am,

As a frequent customer of yours I’m writing in regards to a very distasteful experience I had with your airlines. I booked a business class ticket from Kolkata to New Delhi at full fare, on 18th June, 2019, and the following are my booking details:

Departure Time: 8:45 pm
Arrival time: 11:20 pm
Booking date: Mon, 17th June, 2019

It’s also worth mentioning that I am 61 years old, a senior citizen. My seat was assigned in business class, at 1C. Unfortunately, I was placed in a defective seat, with mechanical problems. The assigned seat had the following problems, which were discovered throughout the flight, and unable to be resolved by the flight cabin attendants:

- The foot rest was already elevated and the button was malfunctioned to put it back down
- The lumbar cushion of the seat was protruding out and did not go back down
- Seat was shaking throughout the flight

You can imagine what terrible amount of discomfort I had during those two hours. Due to the combination of these problems, I was not able to sit properly throughout the flight, let alone enjoy the benefits of buying a business class ticket. This is totally uncalled for and a clear case of derogatory negligence on the part of Spice Jet employees.

I would also like to mention that there was no single seat available in business class, and this was, I presume, due to the fact that your airline upgraded the economy class passengers to business class due to over booking or to make more money at the cost of discomfort and misery of a senior citizen like me.

I understand that the aircraft had come from Delhi or some other sector where the defect in this chair must have come to the notice of the cabin attendants. But inspite of that, due to negligence and carelessness, the same defective seat was assigned to me. The cabin crew tried helping me throughout the flight but was unable to do anything regarding the same. They apologised and agreed that it was a mistake on their part, that I had to go through such a horrific incident. Spice Jet spends so much money for your newly introduced business class and how dare you can give such defective service to your business class passenger.

I would like to request for the following, so that the compensation pinches the management of Spice Jet and they do not dare commit such a deed of derogatory negligence in the future:
a. Full refund of my ticket fare
b. A compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs for my discomfort and back pain.

It shall not be out of place to mention that, after I got off the flight, I went towards your counter to complain about the same. One of the airline staff was sitting there and informed me that, the senior executives are busy and will call me in 10-15 minutes. Hence, I gave my card to him, so that he could revert back. But I have not received any response, showing that how careless and stubborn is the spice jet employees are and hence I’m writing this letter to you.

I seek your explanation on the matter as I have some doubts for whether these mechanical problems were known in advance to Spice Jet. It was a disappointing experience when paying a premium amount to travel in Business Class.

I await your review and feedback on this matter. Please feel free to call me. So I request you to kindly refund a cheque of my full fare of the ticket and the compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs along with an apology from spice jet. Failing which, I will be compelled to take the legal route.
