[Resolved]  Volkswagen India — Poor Servicing

Address:Volkswagen Madras South

Dear Sir,
On 10th of October 2020 I have taken my Volkswagen Cross Polo Reg. No. TN 19L 6537 to VW Madras South (Kun Volkswagen, OMR, Chennai) for general annual maintenance. About an year back, when I had an issue with the gear cable assembly, it had been replaced from them on payment basis. Since then the gear lever function was not smooth and the same was mentioned during the current servicing. During the adjustment, many times the technician confirms the adjustment is to my satisfaction or not. This has happened many times and I have to finally accept the adjustment of gear assembly without full satisfaction.
During my previous annual maintenance, I have asked them to do the wheel alignment. On completion, when asked for the report, I got a printout with the achieved values invisible and at many columns values were beyond the limits. When enquired about it, they convinced me that the issue is with the printer but the values are ok. Later they took me to the wheel alignment machine and attempted showing it on the screen, but the result was unavailable in the database of the machine. Either they are not aware of saving/retrieval or forgotten to save or the machine does not have the feature. (To my understanding, the machine is decades old one and not with good features). Finally they have redone the alignment, but the results were not upto the satisfaction. While the job was running, I noticed that the pedestal where the monitor was placed had only three legs and the whole pedestal was dangling on its three feet. At the end of the alignment, the station manager Shri. Ramesh assured me that he will rectify the wheel alignment machine before my next visit and promised me that he will do the wheel alignment free of cost. Finally I have taken the delivery of the car without satisfaction. While I drove the car from the service station to my home, it was found that the gear lever got loose and with lots of difficulties I have reached home. On reporting this issue, the manager blamed me that it had happened due to the mishandling. Later when the technician came the next day and opened the gear lever bellow, it was found that the gear lever was tied with a plastic tie which was used for cable bunching. He removed the plastic ties and crimped the ring clamp he bought with the gear lever and assembled back. Since they do not have the ring clamp and crimping tool, it has been tied with plastic ties and it is understood that the ring clamp and crimping tool had been bought specially for me. It is very pathetic to know that a VW authorised service station does not have proper tools to maintain the world leader cars. Very shameful. (Photograph and the video of replacing the ring clamp will be produced on demand). On the same occasion, after servicing, I found the horn was not functioning. I had to take the vehicle to the same service station traveling 66km with my own expenditure, spending my leave and time for replacement. Though I got the replacement free of charge, it is all very pathetic to mention here but unfortunately I no other go, but to have.
Since I was not happy with the wheel alignment did last time, assuming that the machine might be serviced and made perfect, I have asked them to do the wheel alignment during the current servicing too. Unfortunately the process of wheel alignment was a repetition of previous year. This time also they tried twice and failed. Finally I was forced to take my car half aligned and I am now scared of driving long and have to do this exercise depending on a reliable private agency. After servicing, when I reached home, I found that the cooling fan of the A/c unit is not running after switching off the car (in general, when the car stopped and switched off, the cooling fan of the A/c unit will run for a few seconds and stops automatically). After a few kilometers, the gear engagements became very tough too. This was reported to the manager very next day, i.e. 12th Oct. 2020, but no response yet. Meanwhile I had made numerous calls to the station manager Shri. Ramesh (+91 [protected]) as well as to the service adviser, but in vain.
Hence I would like to summarise the problems that I currently face with my car by attending it by VW Madras south.
1.Gear engagements became more tough.
a.There is a sudden jerk when releasing the clutch while gear engages in reverse position.
b.When it engages with 1st gear and the clutch pedal is fully pressed, (clutch disengaged position) it gives a noise as if it is half engaged.
c.All the gear engagements are very tough. Need to apply enormous force for shifting.
2.A/c cooling fan does not function when the vehicle is switched off.
3.Improper wheel alignment
I now have to suspect VW Madras south on the other service that they have done so far. They charge for full oil and filter replacements, but not sure whether they really did it or not. As in other service centers, VW Madras south does not have the surveillance system at all. Similarly, when a customer comes with his vehicle for servicing, other service centers provide a vehicle for drop and pick up to nearby place where he need to go for some purchase or other needs. Whereas this service center does not have such facility at all. The whole day the customer have to sit in the lobby idle. In such case, VW Madras south does not have WiFi facility where the customer can use when he sits idle. Very frustrating to the customer who goes to VW Madras south.
It is very shameful to mention that VW Madras south does not have proper tools to maintain the machines as well as knowledged trained technicians too. But to be very frank, the VW Madras south is too good in water servicing.
Hence I hereby request VW to divert this matter to any other service station near by Chennai for free of cost where I can rely on the service to the customer satisfaction. Since I am planning to go to Kerala next week, any service station nearby Trichur also may suggest where I can do the service for free of cost.
I am not intended to mention you to take any action on such poorly maintained service stations and customer relations, but punishing them will help VW to maintain the leadership. Hope you may understand my feelings as I am very much attached to VW cars. I expect your favourable reply at the earliest.
With Regards

Complaint marked as Resolved
There is no steps has been taken from VW Madras south and marked the complaint as solved. I don't understand how complaint can be solved without attending it. Very pathetic. The entire Indian society has to take an oath not to buy Volkswagen cars at all.
Volkswagen India customer support has been notified about the posted complaint.

According to the email I have received from VW customer care on 24th October 2020, I am suppose to receive response from Customer Relationship Manager Ramesh U at [protected] or Customer Relationship Manager Lalitha (+91 [protected]) against my complaint No.: MED06101759, VIN No.: WVWG13606ET012356 within 48 hours as mentioned in your communications. Whereas I have received calls from Ms. Vyshali from KUN VW Madras south on 26th and 27th of October asking for the details. During the conversation I had with it was indicated to her the following.
1.During the previous annual maintenance (one hand half year back), when asked for the wheel alignment, the VW Madras south have failed to do it twice and I was forced to take delivery of the vehicle due to time constraints. The same has happened during the current annual maintenance service too.
2.When I had an issue with the gear assembly, it was replaced by VW Madras south a few months ago. While traveling back after the replacement, the gear lever got loose and it was reported to the manager on the same day over the phone. The moment it was reported, the manager, Mr. Ramesh VW Madras south indicated that it might have happened due to mishandling the gear lever. Later when he sent the technician for the corrective measure, it was found that a plastic tie was used to assemble the gear lever instead of metallic ring clamp.
3.Since then the gear lever was too hard to operate and the same was reported during this annual maintenance, i.e. 10th October 2020. After the maintenance, it became more worse as indicated in the complaint raised to VW customer care.
4.The cooling fan (radiator) issue has never happened for the past 7 years but now after this annual service.
5.Last week it is noticed that the engine oil that VW Madras south claimed replacement and charged Rs.4704/- found black, sticky and not upto the recommended level. Moreover, the level gauge plastic found to be stuck with the body shows that it has not been opened for quite a long period.
Due to the above mentioned issues, I have lost money, time and peace of mind. This has happened twice and I am too worried and scared of the performance of my vehicle. As mentioned in my complaint, I was about to leave Kerala tomorrow but could not make it happen due to uncertainty of the performance of my vehicle. During the conversation with Ms. Vishali, VW Madras south, contact No. +91 [protected], I have demanded the compensation for the price equal to the diesel consumption to travel between the service centre and my residence along with Rs. 5000/ equal to my one day salary, for which she agreed to pay the diesel consumption charge and for the one day salary compensation, she said she need to get the confirmation from the manager, service center. Without any further communication, on 27th October she sent an email stating to bring the vehicle either to VW Madras south or VW Pondichery which is 66Km and 90Km respectively from my residence on my own expense to rectify the complaints.

As per the telephonic conversation you had with me on 13th November 2020, you have agreed with all grievances that I have indicated in the notice served you on 6th November 2020 except the compensation against one day salary equal to Rs. 5000/- (Rupees five thousand only). As indicated in all my mails, all your personnel, i.e. your customer care manager, KUN VW Alanthur and the three member team you sent for evaluation as well as in the telephonic conversation that I had with you on 13th also agreed for the replacement of the engine oil. Whereas you have indicated in the sent mail that the replacement of engine oil will be done only after discussion in person. Over phone you commit something and over mail you are expressing something different. When discussed with the master technician, Shri. Kumaran, requested to bring the vehicle to the service center and he assured the replacement of engine oil along with other service related issues. As a manager of a service station of a reputed car company, it is not fair at your end to behave so badly. Considering and respecting the age, service and gentle approach of Shri. Kumaran, I have accepted to bring my vehicle to your service center at my convenience, probably this week for rectifying the above mentioned faults as indicated in the notice served to you.

As per the mail I received from Volkswagen on 24th October 2020, it is accepted that all the grievances mentioned in the mail sent you on 21st October 2020 will be attended under my supervision to the extent of my satisfaction. Based on this complaint, the customer head from VW Alanthur, Chennai on 26th and 27th of October 2020 has contacted me over the phone to know the issues that I am facing. Explaining the matter, she also accepted all grievances including the compensations that I have asked except the compensating amount equal to one day salary for which she needed confirmation from the manager. Since then there was no progress in attending the issues, hence I was forced to send the notice to Volkswagen on 6th November 2020. On 7th November representatives of VW Madras South, a three member team, a master technician with his two technicians, visited my residence for evaluation of the complaints. (In my earlier mail, I have mentioned the date as 7th October. It's a typographical error and it shall be read as 7th November). After evaluation, all of them have accepted the facts and agreed to attend all the complaints to my satisfaction along with the compensations which I have asked. The same was communicated on the spot to the manager VW Madras South and he agreed to send me the mail within two days accepting what was recommended by the three members team. The same has communicated to you on 9th November 2020. Since then no progress on the mentioned complaints or no communications from VW Madras south.
Yesterday, 13th November 2020 about 6.30pm, Manager VW Madras South called me over the phone and accepted all complaint rectifications and compensations asked by me other than the compensating amount equal to my one day salary. This statement is totally against the commitment made by his team who visited for evaluation on 7th November 2020. To the best of my sense, behaving injustice and making untrustworthy statements are not fair from a manager who handles the service station of a world lead passenger car company. It will not only lose the reputation of the company but lose the confidence among the customers and it goes on from mouth to ears which further damages the reputation of Volkswagen.
From the above mentioned experience with the VW Madras south, I lost confidence in them. As mentioned in my earlier communication, I hereby would like to request Volkswagen to authorise a service station near to Trissur, Kerala for rectifying the above mentioned issues or to any other service station near to me other than KUN groups.
My motto is not to make you to take any action on a particular individual or the branch for not maintaining the customer satisfaction and relationship. But I would like to mention certain things which I observed while I visit VW Madras south. The VW Madras south do not know how to maintain any kind of decorum. They do not know how to maintain the machineries in condition. They do not display the email id and contact numbers of the top officials of Volkswagen in their office premise. They do not drop and pick the customer to the nearby place who comes for servicing. No technicians are sound in knowledge. When a customer asks to do a certain job, they do something different and finally the manager has to be involved in settling the matter. No WiFi connectivity while the customer comes for servicing and waits in the lobby till his service is completed. No hospitality to the customer. Many times I have seen the customer quarrels with the manager or the staff for his compliance. No surveillance system as it is in other service centers. Finally, the Volkswagen service center at Madras south is a big zero. I don't understand how Volkswagen has given the authorisation to VW Madras south for servicing Volkswagen vehicles. Hope you may understand my concern about the issues that I have mentioned above as I am very much attached to VW cars.
Since 10th October 2020, enough patience has been shown from my side despite all kinds of the ill treatments that I suffered from VW Madras south to resolve the issues. This will be my final communication to Volkswagen and no more communications will be made hereafter. If the raised issues have not settled within the time frame that I have mentioned in the notice, I will straightaway proceed for further action and I will not be responsible for any loss by any means affected you both thereafter. This is for your kind information and immediate necessary action please.
