Hi sachinahuja,
I'd like to help you based on your post may I know which OS you are using on your desktop? May I know if you can see the drive in Disk Management as (Disk 1)? It should show there as (GPT protective partition). Normally it shows when you create a globally unique identifiers (GUID) partition on the hard drive running Windows Vista on your PC.
I have found a useful link for you which shows the similar issue.
You may visit the link below it should be helpful to solve your issue.
(After installing and using an external hard drive under Windows 7 or Vista, the drive is not detected correctly under Windows XP.) http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1695
I hope it will help you.
Good luck.
