[Resolved]  Whirlpool Of India Ltd — excessive repair charges

Address:Mumbai City, Maharashtra, 400049

On 31.3.2019 i complained that there was a flash and perhaps the fuse was blown while opening the fridge door and there was no cooling in the bottom portion of the fridge, although the deep freezer was working. Their service man mr. Sunil kumar [protected] attended on the same day, and after checking thoroughly he said that this damage was caused due to the power fluctuation. And he estimated repair cost at rs.8406=00. I asked if it included a voltage stabilizer to avoid any such mishap in the future. He said i have to pay extra rs.1250=00 for a voltage stabilizer, making a total rs. 9656=00. I argued with him that since this was a design mistake from whirlpool, nothing should be charged. However he insisted on advance payment of at least 4000=00 without which he could not carry out the repairs. Finally i made the payment under protest as otherwise my all perishable products would go waste without cold storage.

Speaking with their authorised service provider mr. Tiwari of sun rise services, he advised me to go for amc (Annual maintenance contract) and said if i had entered into amc at the time of purchase, there was a special offer of amc for 3 years @ around rs. 5500=00. I told him that i am ready to pay rs.5500=00 for 3 years, but he said it was only for those who had taken amc from beginning, else the amount is rs.12840=00 for 3 years. I said, you are already charging me rs. 9656=00, which should be deducted from your 3 yrs amc of rs. 12840=00, but he refused to agree to my request.

He said that the new models now have a built in voltage stabilizer. But in 2015 model there was no built instabiliser and the damage was done due to the voltage fluctuations. This confirms my view that there was a designing error on the part of whirlpool india. I now understand why they rectified their design defect and started supplying new models with a built in stabilizer.in the circumstances i should get full refund of the amount rs. 9656=00 i already paid towards repairs.
As there was no fault from my side, and i should get benefit of the 3 years service contract offer at rs. 5500=00 which i am prepared to pay after receipt of the refund.

I had emailed to them my above complaint, but there was no written response.
Thanks and regards,
Ashok mehta.

Dear Sir,

I bought WHIRLPOOL PRO 525 ELT 3S ALPA(D13) 20106 from marketing co. M/s Sony Mony, S.V.Road, VileParle West
with one year service warranty, on 18.9.2015. It clearly states in Whirlpool PROFESSIONAL user manual, on page no.6 : << The stabliizer free operation of Whirlpool Refrigerator ensures that you do not have to spend extra money in buying a separate stabilizer for your refrigerator.>> So I did not think of buying a stabilizer at that time.

Regarding my complaint dated 8th May 2019 with the consumer forum, giving a mobile number is optional.
Secondly, when I made a direct complaint to the Whirlpool support, I had given my mobile number. I reproduce my email to you, which you have so far not replied:
