[Resolved]  Apollo Hospital Vanagaram — under-quoting before admission and overcharging thereafter (Scam)

My father aged 75 underwent bypass surgery in Vijaya hospital Chennai in Dec 2013 . After 6 months he had pus from the chest bone and went to see same doctor who did surgery . But the group of doctors moved from Vijaya hospital to Apollo vanagaram, so my dad went to see same doctors in Apollo . During first visit he was told that the need to remove metal wire used to hold chest bone and advised him of Rs10, 000 to 15, 000/- and 2 to 3 days stay in hospital . He returned to home town and went back a week later to get his procedure done . He was asked to pay Rs10, 000/- as deposit after paying he was admitted and procedure was carried on .

- Metal wire in chest bone was not removed as advised earlier
- pus was collected and sent for lab examination and doctors say the can start next course of action after seeing lab report . That's fine, why this wasn't told before ?

- Second day he was asked to pay Rs55000/- . Initial estimate wasRs15, 000/- how could suddenly incur Rs55, 000/- bill for 24 hours in hospital . Breakdown given is Rs10, 000/- for one hour operation theatre, Rs10, 000/- for doctor fees, Rs9500/- for medicine, Rs14, 000/- for 2 days in ICU, +++ ..

Knowing that an operation is required why was he given a estimate of Rs15, 000/- when one hour of operation theatre costs Rs10, 000/- and one day ICU cost Rs7, 000/-
this is like a scam, give a low estimate start procedure and force patients to pay whatever is demanded ..

- and prolong course of stay for some reasons
and I am still not sure how much will be final bill .
